"Josh & Wes can't guard 5 guys" - Tad

Paraphrasing, but that was Tad's message in the post-game interview.

Said we'd have lost by 20 if it weren't for the 2 of them helping on the perimeter, erasing mistakes with blocked or altered shots and getting rebounds.

Tad completely ripped the perimeter defense (no pride), said that they've got 3 days to get better before Thanksgiving, and that he made a mistake last year that won't be repeated of being too soft on the team.

He finished by saying that Rick George probably won't like him saying this, but all the fans who came out today deserve their money back.

Edit P.S.: Tad started that interview by saying the team that deserved to win didn't get the victory today. He was all sorts of pissed off.

A really cool thing about Josh Scott's leadership today: he changed 2 play calls early in the game so that they went to Wes instead of him. He knew that Wes had been struggling offensively and was feeling down so he made sure that he got off today. Love this guy.

So is it lack of effort on perimeter defense or fear of fouling?

It would be hard to say that Dom and Fortune are playing not to foul.

I think they'll come around. It's more than effort, though. It's about "drinking your own wine" as Tad was saying and thinking you've just got to show up. They didn't even pay attention to the game plan or the evidence on the court to realize that guarding #3 was about forcing him to go left. They knew that his tendency was to drive right off his crossover. They let him do it over and over.

They gave up 17 ****ing layups today. Some of that is definitely effort. Like not getting back on defense after a made basket. Ugh.

RK mentioned to Tad that Tre'Shaun made a comment about the team having to adjust to playing at noon. Tad flipped his sh!t over that one.

Go to 4:17 for the fireworks.

Tad being able to talk like this is a great sign of how close knit this team is. I do think he over-reacted a bit about Tre'Shaun's comment (it was BS, but Tad took it a little far), other than that though, TRUTH.

It's frustrating seeing Dom and Fortune not foul when they should take the risk, and then get hit for silly ones. JF did have a super clean block that unjustly got him his 2nd foul...funny how that one miscall may have dictated so much about the game.

The post game on KOA was epic. Loved hearing Tad just flat out pissed off when answering questions from Mark and Scott. No mincing words as others have said. Noticeable change from last year

"What I'm thankful for this week is that we don't have to go to school this week and we don't have NCAA restrictions on film and practice time."

You're a beautiful man, Tad Boyle.

I thought this was probably a tongue and cheek comment and I was thinking he was joking. Holy S*** was he not joking around.

Tad's defense all starts with the guards, they have got to stop dribble penetration, today they are awful. IMO it was a lack of effort, we've seen Dom play defense, he couldn't stay in front of anybody today.

Coach will get their attention this week. Really just have them watch the Pac-12 Tourney run. Defense and Rebounding can win you championships and both of those are not as much about talent as they are about desire.

In all fairness to the above mentioned perimeter players.....the officiating early on has been awful, and I don't blame any perimeter defender for not playing good D, because I have no idea what college basketball or the officials want these kids to do on the perimeter. Similar to not having an idea what a catch in the NFL is, I have no idea what a foul in regards to perimeter defense is. Must be frustrating to not be able to guard on the wing, because you don't want to make contact. If the rules were to stay this way(which they won't), it would make sense to recruit nothing but small quick players who can create contact anytime they drive, because that type of player would shoot 15 free throws a game. Officiating will go somewhat back to normal after Christmas.....always seems to.

Seen a few question marks on this, but curious why Eli still hasn't seen any action at all. Seems that if you aren't seeing the effort from one of your stars, you are going to start putting everyone and anyone in until you get to see the effort you want to see.

I am in no way saying that Eli should be getting minutes over the guys who are playing now, but I would have figured that putting him in for a little would be a bit of a wake up call to the starters.

Brett Brady played yesterday, Not Eli. I'd say that says a lot about Eli's place on this team.

Good point. Tad needs to get him on the court in the Ft. Lewis game to make sure he doesn't redshirt.
