I don't know why i'm still up at 1:20 am. Drinking some Fat Tire,listening to some tunes and reading this stuff.

Funny how blackmon and katoa's departures are the very last sentence in a hush-hush kind of way.

Hoped katoa would see the field, another 4 star who won't "star" at CU. We have to stop losing guys but this one was on himfrom all reports.

Too bad, hope he turns it around.

It is sad news for sure. But I have to say that this is more true than many will ever know. Hope the young man can turn his life around.

Too bad how it turned out for LK. Would have liked to see him play. Would have like to see him appreciate the opportunity and make the most of himself.
 
hidden in the article seems sneaky, as you guys are noting. landing Katoa wasn't insignificant for this staff.

Another schollie available is the only positive spin I can think of.
 
Wonder what the reason was? Can't be grades since those results wont be back for another month.

Sounds like he found himself in some legal trouble perhaps?
 
The thing that pisses me off is that I can imagine those ****ing ou fans snickering at us. I mean, could you imagine what the ut boards would be saying if DS had left the team?

Looking back, Katoa was a fairly high risk kid from the get go. He came from a troubled past but had seemed to turn it around. I kind of wonder if his high school is a little bit to blame. I mean, he was not doing well in school, seemed to turn it around, and graduated 6 months early. That just seems really wierd to me.

If he's flunking out they really don't need to wait until the semester is over to know.
 
I really dont think the OU fans are thinking much about Katoa. I mean they have plenty of other 4 and 5 stars to focus on. We need every 4 and 5 star kid we can get in order to get even close the level that OU is right now.

I guess that is possible, but from what I remember of most of my classes, the majority of the grade came from the final exam and that term paper that was due in the last few weeks of the class. Some of the lower level classes, 60-70% of the final grade comes in the last few weeks of the class.

If he was on academic probation for this semester, due to his grades from last semester, he has until the end of this semester to get his GPA up to a 2.0. If he couldn't get at least a 2.0, then they would kick him out but nothing official would happen until all grades are in for this semester. That is why I am thinking this is more of a he just gave up, or there was some sort of legal/judicial affairs thing.
 
Attrition and injuries are really killing our team...

It seems like almost all of the guys with issues over the past couple years have been our highest rated recruits...

All of our ****/***** guys have had issues.

If that trend continues it is going to ecome a problem... we need to have what blue chip talent we do get on the field.

I think Meisler is just a much of an idot as the next person, but I have to say it's pretty funny that we have one thread blasting her for referring to CU as being secretive and another talking about her sneaking the bad news about Katoa into her article.... :lol:

This news about Katoa is hardly "news" at this point, but it's still depressing as hell. I REALLY wanted to see him out there doing his thing on the field as a Buff. But the whole college athletics experience just isn't for some kids.... :sad1:

Katoa's recruitment makes for an interesting case study. Cabral and the coaches obviously saw the potential and took the risk to offer the scholly.

Sometime you get the Buffalo. Sometimes you get buffaloed.
 
Sucks, it is a good thing that we have some depth at the LB position......so with the scholly free, can CU use it this yr our next???......GO BUFFS!!!!!

Most of his "make-up" work was in the form of BYU extension classes he took. I think (in hindsight) the whole deal at Cottonwood HS with the big money guy who's kid is now a QB at Okla State is a bit sketchy. Kaufusi was the same situation. Rocky Mountain News had a good article on this, if these can still be found....

Although the trip from Salt Lake City across the Rocky Mountains to the University of Colorado campus was a relatively short one for Lynn Katoa, it landed him in a new world.

Escaping the old one took time - and maybe more resolve than will be required of any other member of CU's 2008 football recruiting class.
Already a finely chiseled (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) prospect who began spring-semester classes at CU last week and will compete in spring drills, Katoa hopes to add his name to a legacy of top- tier linebackers molded by veteran coach Brian Cabral.
