The exchange over the injured defensive players is priceless.

Reporter: How difficult is it to get prepared defensively when so many guys are hurt?
RRod: We don't have any guys hurt. Who's hurt?
Reporter: Tevis (#1 S) is out isn't he..Couple other guys..
RRod: Nope
Reporter: Gilbert (#1 DE)
RRod: The other guys get ready. I hope they're guys who get back quickly. They may lose their spot.

I bet he has no idea what's going on defensively.
 
He's trying to light a fire under his team, and is coming across as a complete prick in the process.
 
i was at the garden for the big east tourney final a few years back and a WVU fan was telling me that rich rod's house in morgantown is still unsold. everyone there hates him and no one wants him to make any money on the house, so it just sits there. definitely an a-hole.

In his defense (and I don't like the guy), I've never seen a coach who enjoyed answering even one question regarding injuries. Some are more diplomatic in their responses, but I can understand him being terse in that situation.
 
yeah, it was the 2012 big east final. so maybe the guy was a little late with his story. i bought the tickets for practically nothing at a bar from a distraught syracuse fan whose team had already been knocked out. it was like 20 minutes after we won the pac-12 tourney and i was on a real basketball high. really good night.

I have no doubt most fans hate the guy. The thing is, that was probably a multi-million dollar home, and my suspicion would be that more than have of the potential buyers couldn't speel Mountaineers. 2008, when he left, was the start of the crash - it was quite common for multi-million dollar homes to take years to sell (or be foreclosed on).

Still a funny story - I would have bought it at the time I heard it from said drunken fan.

I get a sense that when he went into Michigan he assumed that he would automatically have the same respect from the players as he left at WVU without having to earn it. He didn't get it and that was part of his downfall.

Did he make the same mistake at UA, "I'm RichRod, respect me." Sounds like he might be getting frustrated because the players aren't responding to his shtick like he thinks they should.
 
The contrast between RR and MM is extreme. Hard nose curmudgeon versus upbeat positive love-em up type.

I'd like to believe millennials are more prone to respond to the guy with wrist bands and uncommon shirts over the irritable prick.

The Embree/Bienemy era turned me off on the hard-nosed bastard approach. And Hawkins turned me off on juicebox zen with the son on-board. In that context, I'm looking for Zona and CU to be fighting with Utah to not be last place in the P12 south.

This nov 8th game in Tucson keeps getting more interesting.

I have no doubt that M2 can level a verbal broadside to make just about anybody wince when he needs to. I remember a few times when you could see him ready to blow something up.

The big difference I think between todays players and those of prior eras is that if you are constantly yelling now these players just tune it out and it has no impact. The last year of Embree you could see the staff screaming their heads off and guys not even reacting.

Because his normal demeanor is so consistently upbeat and positively focused when he does get upset the impact is much more significant. Guys figure that if it was enough to get him upset it was something to pay attention to.
