Today: Nike Houston Opening

March 4th: Nike San Francisco Opening

March 11th: Nike LA Opening

April 1st-June 25th: Period when juniors can take official visits

April 15th-May 31: Spring Evaluation Period

April 29th: Nike Dallas Opening

Those two California Nike camps are especially big dates because they tend to kick off West coast recruiting in earnest. Nike camps in general give a lot of players a chance at exposure by getting testing results on the record.

Big reason for ending spring practices in March is to be able to be 100% focused on official visits in April.

Post-Spring Practices Outlook:

There are 17 seniors on scholarship. So 20 is a good number to target for 2019. By position, an educated guess:

QB (1): Evans is committed. Done here.

RB (2): Davis is committed, but with several RBs graduating and an unsettled depth chart, expect another back to be added.

WR (2): While there are three scholarship seniors here, the last two classes have been relatively heavy at the position.

TE (1): No seniors here, but coaches seem to be looking for an upgrade.

OL (3): Well-documented depth issues at OT. Need at least two in this class. Interior line looks more settled.

DL (4): Graduating three seniors here and this feels like the position the group the coaches really need to go heavy with numbers.

DE/OLB (1): Very young position group, but always need pass rushers.

ILB (2): Graduate Gamboa and Lewis, need to replace those numbers.

BB (1): Farrar is committed, so we should be done (probably not, but really should be).

CB (0): Not a need position in this class.

S (2-3): The other position group aside from the front three which seems to scream big numbers in this class.

P (1): The transfer Loy looks to be the player filling this need.

April really kicks the evaluation part of the recruiting calendar into overdrive. By the time the dead period starts in late June, the recruiting board will largely be set. Expect around 12 commits to be in the fold by the time August rolls around. Overall, the next few months are really going to tell us a lot, so hopefully the coaches capitalize on early positive momentum.

Good breakdown, thanks.

A couple comments. MM likes his CBs, he may take one with the idea of moving somebody from CB to safety if he sees a guy he can't resist.

DL (and OL) is where our recruiting has been arguably weakest since MM got here. Need numbers but those numbers need to be quality and need to be heavily weighted towards HS recruits. Need to stop chasing our tails with JC DL players.

Would not surprise me if a CB is signed, but if Wallace stays at corner, the numbers are good. Safety looks much more iffy going forward.

Hoping that Drake will pay dividends in DL recruiting.

This is the reason you hire a young and dynamic position coach. Recruit recruit recruit.

Just bumping this to say things are about to get hectic. In general, news on a specific player will be in their individual thread, which is linked in the database. Lots of intriguing names popping up.

Spring Evaluation Period starts tomorrow. Should see the board really come together over the next six weeks.
