Kicking off first

Im pretty sure we have kicked off to start every game so far. Even the times we have stopped their offense we just go 3 and out after that. I wish we would just try and get the ball first and take a 7-0 lead. This is especially important at home because it gives the fans more time to file in before we go on defense. I Hope we receive the ball on friday.

Statistical analysis has shown that you get more possessions when you kick off first (just how the game plays out I guess). Also that you are much more likely to put your defense in a real bad spot field position wise if you go 3 and out or close to it. Now, what makes you think our O would march down the field and get a touchdown?

Plus, most teams like to receive the ball to start the second half - meaning that they can either add to their lead, or cut into a deficit. As you say, though, this assumes they have an offense that can actually score.
 
Ordinarily, I think you're better off kicking off to begin the game. However, with this defense, I think we may be better off getting the ball first. Might as well delay that first score as long as possible.

Exactly and theres a chance that you hit P RICH deep and get a quick 7 on the board than the defense is extra pumped up, the crowd is 10 times as loud and they think theyre a stop away from a 14-0 lead.

exactly. we have to receive. who knows maybe get our 1 good return for the season and just get points. even if we go 3 and out we just delay getting down 7-0. and then that next drive the offense comes out they had 1 drive to try and get in rhythm
 
Deferring is the right choice. Our offense has been as bad as our defense. Probably worse.
 
kind of a good point though. It's impossible to tell in the past several attrocities, but early in the season CU was making some good adjustments for the second half. Why not take the ball right away and do what you can while you are pumped up (ie. not already down) and then hope that with adjustments in the second half your defense has a better chance of stopping them.
 
We haven't kicked off first every game. I know we've deferred to the second half at least once.
