4-8 in 2012.

My god his defense looks like world beaters. Even if they are not they are very good. Amazing that the guy was hired in 1999. Is he the modern day Frank Beamer? Years of work, a peak season or two, then back to obscurity? Or is he positioned and network to continue hiring good assistants and keep this thing alive.

Good to see the Hawkeyes do well.

No. They just ran out of time.

I think its odd in this era, as well as good, that a guy like Ferentz has been around so long and at the same time has achieved what his current team represents.
Might have to explain that a bit more. He has had his share of heat over those losing and underachieving seasons.

They always seem to have a real good OL and DL. Then when the stars align and they get veteran players in other positions, they win 9+ games.

Kudos to Kirk but I would be interested to know if Iowa has recently hired a new OC and/or DC.

DC Phil Parker has greatly impressed me. Knows the key to winning in his division is building a strong defensive line. He's been there since the longtime DC Norm Parker retired.

OC Greg Davis has been there since he was nudged out at Texas. He has been the architect of statistically great offenses in his career but his success usually lives and dies by the quality of his QB and playcalling lacks imagination.

Ferentz makes my overrated coach category most years. He has one trademark in my mind - inconsistency. He is paid a ton of money, has great support from the school, and he is given the resources.

He is a good coach and this year he earned his salary, I would say about half the time he does not. He is very good at working the boosters and the fans which is very important.
