Does the sun come up in the morning?

They believe they have a message and sports are a way of getting that message out. They believe they are justified in doing whatever it takes to keep that message front and center and thus they are justified in making sure their sports teams play "at the highest level."

When I was a freshman in high school we had a running back that was 6'2 and about 220. Dude was a beast that no freshman could seem to bring down. The next year he was at some private school in Texas even though his family still lived in Colorado. I don't know what happened to that guy but it really pissed me off that he was recruited to play for some private school.

Boulder high just hired Bob Simmons to be their head coach. You think they did that because he's a big name that was a head coach at the D-1 level and might be able to convince a few kids to come play football there? You'd be a fool not to.

I know what you were getting at, and I hope he does just that. As I mentioned, the demographics in Boulder don't lend themselves to producing a lot of talented football players. I expect the hire is being done to get kids from outside Boulder to come there. It's more than just Fairview, they're competing for kids with Monarch, Legacy, Centaurus, etc.

A good number of Fairview football players come from the Monarch footprint. Lots of dads steering their kids away from the infamous double wing.

HS hockey did this in Minnesota when I was a kid back in the late 80s. Private schools solicited spots to players who were cut from the A squads to the B squads at the junior high feeder level. I don't think there is much of a story here, other than the obvious.....
