As we all know, he was hired by Bob Huggins, a coach who was out of work and blacklisted when Kansas State hired him. Huggins, despite his success at Cincinnati, was considered untouchable by many due to the off-court problems in his program and its infamous 0% graduation rate. Huggins brought Martin to KSU as an assistant coach despite (because of?) Martin's rep as a coach who had no problem making payoffs to get talent. He became the key guy in getting Michael Beasley to KSU, which led to him getting the head coach job.

Here's what his history as a Florida high school coach was:

Miami High was fined $2500 and forced to reimburse more than $5000 in expenses incurred during the FHSAA's investigation. Five players, including [Udonis] Haslem, were barred from ever playing for Miami High again. The school was required to return the 1998 state championship trophy. Head coach Frank Martin (lauded in the Herald article) was fired, along with the school's athletic director.

"This is one of the most, if not the most, blatant violations of FHSAA rules against recruiting that I have encountered in my seven years as commissioner of this association," said Ron Davis when he handed down the penalties in August 1998.

I am not a big fan of Frank Martin, but I have to give him props for something. My wife hates him so much, she wants to watch the Kansas-KSU game tomorrow (Valentines day) just to watch him lose. Now who here is able to watch basketball on Valentines day, who is also not single?

My wife wanted to slap Martin after the way he acted on the bench (four letter words and douchebaggery)
 
He also gave a job to Beasley's dad. Then Beasley went to KSU. Huh.

Edit: Not his dad, his AAU coach.
