I was thinking we needed a dedicated place to post the latest rumors & information on Kiffin. A good place for posting any abuse he's getting in words or pictures, too.

Loved this tweet from a couple minutes ago (right after M Kiffin's Dallas defense made another big play):

Pat Forde @YahooForde
I guess the only person who can make Monte Kiffin a bad coach is Lane Kiffin. He's a star everywhere else.

Unless they already have a guy in mind who isn't working right now SC doesn't have much to gain by firing him in-season. My guess is that they fire him after the end of the season and before the bowls.

SC being who they are will then go after another "big name" guy. I also think that the name may be more inportant than getting the best coach and that SC will continue to underperform their talent.

Is there a dedicated thread for Mrs. Kiffin?

I bet if Sarkisian has a big year at UW they give him a look. Jack Del Rio is a name that has been thrown around before. Chris Peterson maybe? Not really sure there's an OC/DC out there big enough for them.

They might want to hire a man this time, one with proven credentials as a head coach. I'm thinking that "being a flashy recruiter" really isn't that important.

I am of course torn b/c I like USC being in the toilet for a change and it gives me hope that HCMM can turn this around and get us to the top of the South in a few years. But if they replace him with someone competent, their recruiting base and facilities will make it tough to beat.

BTW, is that for real his wife? Holy @@@ That guy can recruit.

Southern Cal's MO is to hire an NFL guy with a big name. Jack Del Rio fits that description. I'm not convinced its a good move. For every Pete Carroll, there are five Charlie Weisses.

Yeah. It's like recruiting to UCLA for basketball. Any idot on Allbuffs could pull in a Top 25 class. What they need is someone who can coach and manage a program (with the attendant ego battles that occur at a place like USC).

And being in glitter town has it's attractions to certain recruits, but there's a downside to that as well. Pete Carroll managed all that pretty well. Neuheisel and Kiffen were equally awful at it. Both brought in a lot of talent, but both teams lacked toughness and discipline.

And I've heard commentators state that USC's sanctions (and resulting lack of depth) is the issue. Bull. While I know a lot of people complained that they weren't being penalized, as they kept bringing in numbers, many of us said that it would take an effect eventually. It's just starting to take that effect. But that's a small part of it. They have enough talent to be top 25, but probably not enough depth to be #1 in the conference, or top 5 nationally.

No, USC being this bad is all Lane Kiffen.

Absolutely right. The lack of depth would should in a shoot out with Stanford. No excuse for failing to move the ball on Washington St at home. Kiffin is an awful coach.

Their problems are directly attributed to subpar OL and no QB development. Even Barkley got progressively worse under Kiffen. He's just a god awful coach.

Depth probably isn't great as in they don't go 4 deep at every position with 5 stars, but it's fixable quickly. If they hire the right coach, they'd be a top 10 team within a year if they can figure out the QB position.

Like nik said, recruiting will never be an issue. If they don't have Kiffen and Orgeron level recruiters, they might not go into Florida and win for 5 stars, but everyone on the west coast will always have them as their dream school. Hire the right coach and recruiting figures itself out.

Which is like 20 Pete Carrolls.

I'm watching Pac-12 Playbook on PACN right now.

During the last segment they asked Ronnie Lott about Lane's job security. He said that he's sorry to say it, but [paraphrasing] if you look at how both the basketball and baseball coaches were fired during the season to avoid the question hanging out there for recruits et al... Lane's coaching for his job this week.

How decent was SC before Carroll got there?

Seems to me they hadn't been very good for a while.

Not sure every coach can handle SC, somewhat akin to ND.

That said, Kiffin sucks. I hope he stays there forever.

Definitely a struggle for them before Carroll took over in 2001. 6-6, 6-5, 8-5, 7-5 and 5-7 in the years leading up to Carroll.

You could fit 5 Pete Carrolls in every Charlie Weis.

What?? that sonnuvabitch. So no matter what he still has a super hot wife and millions of dollars. let's hope karma starts catching up with him real fast.

Fitz is a Great Coach, but he turned down Michigan before Brady H was offered, not sure that he would jump at Texas or USC......But you never know.
