DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Larry Eustachy, already suspended by Iowa State for his behavior at late-night parties, was suspended for one game by the NCAA on Friday for a secondary rules violation.

The NCAA found Iowa State guilty because Eustachy twice paid players for making free throws. The university was ordered to suspend Eustachy for one game, but that might become moot because athletic director Bruce Van De Velde has recommended that Eustachy be fired.

Iowa State had reported the violations to the NCAA and will not appeal the ruling, said associate athletic director Bill Smith, the university's compliance coordinator.

Van De Velde's recommendation to fire Eustachy followed newspaper reports that he drank and partied with college students after games in Columbia, Mo., and Manhattan, Kan.

Photos from the Columbia party show Eustachy kissing young women and being kissed by them on the cheek. Eustachy disclosed this week that he is an alcoholic and is seeking treatment.

Word at the burrito stand is that CSU AD Jack Graham sent the following recruitment video to Eustachy to get him to come to Fort Fun for an "interview":

Here were some of the photos from when Eustachy went out partying with then-Missouri player Josh Kroenke. Yeah, the same Josh Kroenke who is now a Nuggets exec:

He also is the exec for the Avs - but I wouldn't expect you to know that. I don't know if he even knows that.

Is this their new BBball coach?

I'm hoping. He's a good coach and all, but more importantly this would give us a ton of great material. He's interviewing. Unless he's angling for more money from USM, this wouldn't go public unless he planned to accept.

I want to party with that guy.

I would imagine he sees CSU as a good steppingstone to get back into the bigtime. CSU has some talent coming back and the MWC is getting tourney bids but still isn't that good a conference on the bottom and the middle so he would have a good probabiltity of getting back into the tourney. From there he probably figures he can get his name back into the running for major conference jobs.

Between this guy and 'tini, I'm quickly becoming a CSU fan. This seems like a good hire.

Gotta say, this would be a good hire for them. The only thing that confuses me is wondering if CSU is really that big of a step up from Southern Miss. CSU is going to be pretty good next season, but I'm not sure one year there would be enough to springboard him to a BCS level job. So if that's true, why not stay at Southern Miss for one more year and try to get another good season before leaving? I don't think USM loses that much from this year's team (I think they only have 2-3 seniors in their rotation), so why not try one more year there?

CSU does know how good of a coach he is though. He took Southern Miss into Moby earlier this season and took them behind the woodshed by 20+ points.

CSU must be milking their donors dry trying to regain some sense of relevancy - or they're borrowing large sums of cash from the school

this. i've always liked eustachy as a coach despite whatever else....i hope he stays in Hattiesburg. but, a Boyle CU juggernaut and LE in the fort would make for some interesting hoops on the front range. throw Joe Scott's DU team in as well. so, if it's good for growing the sport in the area...ok, i can live with it.

That's where I'm at. Wyoming also looks like they're getting back to being a very solid program. We need AFA to get things fixed, though. We can't have RPI killers on our Front Range schedule. And the last thing I worry about is their success making the games more challenging for CU. If we're what we should be, those will almost always be wins and the losses won't destroy our tourney resume.

Yup. This isn't football. Strong competition in the region is a GREAT thing for the team.

He would be a pretty good hire, although his success at Southern Miss is a bit interesting. Only four guys on the roster actually signed out of high school. The rest transferred from other schools, mostly JUCOs.

does DU start play in the new conference next year?

Yeah. They're in the WAC starting next season. That should boost their RPI a bit and make it more reasonable to schedule them. New Mexico State and Utah State give that conference a couple strong programs. We'll have to see how the MWC and C-USA plans shake out before we'll know how strong they'll be in the future. There's a pretty good chance that the C-USA/MWC merger won't happen and, instead, we'll see the MWC steal SJSU and USU while C-USA steals LA Tech. If that happens, there's a good chance that the WAC becomes a non-football conference with new members (UTSA, UTA and TSU-SM) going to the Sun Belt instead of the WAC.

In short, I would wait before putting DU on the schedule.

no reason he cant keep doing that as CSU

Good hire. Eusthachy's biggest recruit at ISU was Jamal Tinsley(JUCO), and he inherited Marcus Fizer from Tim Miles. The year those 2 played together is still one of my favorite teams to watch. They got absolutely dicked over by the refs in the 2000 Elite 8 against Michigan State(who ended up winning it all that year), otherwise Eustachy may have an NCAA title.
