Larry Zimmer back and announcing home games this fall!

Looks like zim will be back for this year and then retire. So a victory lap for zim, glad to have him back. 50th year calling D1, 42nd with CU.

Who did he call before CU? I don't know why, but I thought I heard him say Mizzou one time.

He is a Mizzou grad. I think it was Michigan.

He actually called CSU games for a couple of years (maybe it was still Colo A&M back then). I am really glad that he will get to leave on his own terms. I have many poignant memories of his interviews of players after games. Even after a loss, when he spoke to players about their disappointment, it added immeasurably to the experience of being a Buff fan. I remember a dark day after Jeremy Aldrich missed a key kick, and was obviously extremely disappointed, and Zim said "Jeremy, you are a really good kicker." I think it is what any of us would have wanted to say to the kid at the time, and while I don't remember anything about that game, I remember listening to the radio in my car, driving on a dark Boulder street, and listening to Zim in the locker room. It was almost like being there. He was (is) a truly great announcer and has been an integral part of my experience as a Buff fan since I was an undergrad. He is a great man and a better Buff than almost all of us, even though he went to Mizzou. I got a little misty eyed when I read the news that he will be back for one last season.

I'll be honest, I was never a Zim fan. But he has risen to "icon" level and I'm very glad to see him recover and come back for a farewell season.

****, I remember that game too, we were snake bit against those pricks. Pretty sure Moschetti was the qb then. I'll always remember the Wyoming game when Ben Kelly returned that kick, thought he was gonna have a heart attack. We'll miss him, hopefully he gets a nice surprise season to enjoy.

So many memories of listening to Zimmer with my dad for many away games before a lot of college football games were on TV. Absolutely made you crazy sometimes with omitting important details, but was always passionate. Would rather listen to him than Mark Johnson any day.

You knew he was gonna miss huh? I did, oh it sucked, I was mad and sad at the same time.

This was the best news of the summer. Glad to see his health improved enough for this to happen. Zim gets to go out on his own terms and we get one more year. Allsome!

His final home game will be on his 80th Birthday. That game happens to be USC at Folsom on Friday night on ESPN2

Ill be there, if one of you can hook me up with good seats, ill pay you well, get you drunk or buy dinner.
PM me when it gets closer. May be able to grab you some seats in the student athlete section for their families. Not too bad of seats. 30 yard line bout ten rows up.

I also have a lot of great memories listening to Zim describe the Buffs games and his passion for the program. Due to his long history with the Buffs, I appreciated his comparison of current players to former players or to prior situations in various Buff games.

Not sure who could float an idea to the powers in charge, but I have always thought it would be a great idea (an possible fundraiser for the athletic department) to have a video featuring Zim and all his favorite games, plays, interviews, players, coaches and any other favorite memories of his many years with the Buffs program. With the excellent quality of some of their recent projects, one would think that the CU video department could spend some time interviewing Zim and put something together that would be good quality and in demand from Buffs fans.

Just a thought.
