LaTonya Watson has been named an assistant women's basketball coach, head coach Linda Lappe announced on Monday. An assistant under Ceal Barry, Watson returns to Boulder after three years at American University

I like it. She was a terrific teacher/coach when she was here before and brings a lot of experience with her. She obviously thinks highly of Lappe and vice versa since Watson coached Lappe here as a player. Coach Watson should still have most of her connections with the Colorado high school/club coaches for recruiting since she was at CU thru 2005 and also coached the Boulder Rockies (a local club team) that season. She also gives the coaching staff a minority presence, which can't hurt.

I like having an experienced coach on the bench. We needed another vet on the bench. Excellent hire, IMO.
