Legitimate Questions

i know someone has, or can get the answers to these questions...

1) How does CU rank defensively on stopping 3rd and 10+?
I honestly feel like they are one of the worst teams when a they've got a team on 3rd and 10 yards or more.

2) How does CU's winning percentage compare to other P5 (and possibly FBS) teams vs ranked opponents, favored opponents, and opponents with winning records since 2010?
I know we've been bad so we suck, but it seems like even some of the worst programs still beat a ranked team every once in a while (Indiana, Maryland, wake Forrest, etc)

3) CU's touchdown percentage compared to other FBS teams when penetrating the 10 yard line (not field goals)?
Seams like when we score, it's from outside the 10. Once we get in there, we choke.

I'm just trying to see my perspective is screwed, or if we really are that bad. Again, since 2010.

I'm sure its bad. If people think MM and his staff will magically coach better recruits....... Keep waiting.... Maybe its assistants and not MM. I dont know.

Mac I said as much...it's players that win games not coaches (not to downplay Xs and Os). He kinda called out this team in that he said his team (eventually) had the players to line up against anyone in the country.

I really don't think MMac's recruiting is up to par (but seems to be getting better with facilities and JL/Tumpkin combo) and the idea you can coach up 2-3* to play with the Stanfords of the world seems silly to me. He'll get another year IMO, but I don't see how he can keep some of the assistants...we need to spend $ and get a couple great recruiters...even if they aren't the best position coaches.

Really good assistants are not coming this offseason for what could be a lame duck year. People need to let go of that idea. MM will win or fail with what he has

Don't necessarily need really good ones. Just a decent one to replace Neinas. Surely a P5 program could get a decent-to-good coordinator. We aren't poaching the best, but we don't need it at this point.

Personally, I think this is a result of talent deficiencies. You can scheme good plays and spread the defense out, but the field obviously shrinks inside the 20 and 10. Then, I think, the talent, strength, size comes into play more vs. executing a great play that has fooled the defense.

All this being said, are these observations FACTS that can be proven by numbers? Or am I (we) just overly sensitive and biased?

If that is the case, CU should cut bait now....while there are some good AC's on staff, there is a bunch of dead weight, and the dead weight quotient goes up when you look at recruiting chops.

Exactly. The whole "no good assistant coach will come during a lame duck year" holds no weight with me. If you are a good head coach, you find good assistant coaches, who are also good at recruiting, regardless of the situation at hand. That sounds too Hawkish to me.
