But as it pertains to Saturday and for what this season can still become, good for the Buffs. They fought and clawed and stole a victory when most of the early obstacles were in their path. Liufau showed why his teammates respect the heck out of his game — and also why he's one of the classiest high-profile amateur athletes to roll through these parts.

The moment kicker Diego Gonzalez smoked through a 32-yard field goal to end CSU's one-year hold on the Showdown, Liufau sprinted to the opposite sideline to shake the hand of every green-and-gold jersey he could find. Liufau and Rashard Higgins, the Rams wide receiver who will be playing on an NFL field again next year, shared a moment, and a man-hug. Telling you. Classy.

A year ago this was almost certainly the type of game the Buffs would hand-deliver to the opponent. This time CU didn't crumble, and that's a sign of confidence and belief.

Pretty fair article...let's face it...the Buffs got manhandled on the lines....CSU "appeared" to be the more physical team.....and we have pretty much sucked for a decade.... Kudos to the team for hanging in....let's hope we can get the run defense and pass rush shored up or Oregon is going to run for 500..... Go Buffs.
 
I think CSU decided it was going to stop our running game at all costs. That's why there was very little in the way of pass rush. CU did a good enough job of running the ball so that they could hit a few key passes. Let's face it, CU could have thrown to Fields on every down and would have connected on at least half of them. They had absolutely no answer for Shay Fields, but we didn't really exploit that weakness to the fullest. I'm really not bothered by the lack of huge running numbers in this game. A lot of us said before the game that we should take what the defense gives us. We did just that.
 
The d-line definitely didn't get manhandled, the defense as a whole just needs to tackle better. It wasn't like last year where we were getting pushed 3 yards off the ball every play. On offense we pass blocked effectively and ran the ball alright but had some injuries at RB that hurt the overall attack. They loaded the box and let us throw the ball deep which ended up working well, especially if there weren't as many drops. Manhandled is definitely an overstatement but I would say CSU was more physical. The only player on D who I would say tackled well would be Awizue, that guy never let anyone go even when he only had an arm on them, he came ready to play.

KC did well as did TT.

Tackling needs to be improve on the DL though. Too many runs that were stuffed in the backfield ended up going for 4 or 5 yards.

Yeah KC and TT did well, especially in the open field which saved a couple scores but their tackles weren't as frequent as Chido's because he was all over the field.

Another thing about the defense was that they could not come up with enough third down stops. How many times did CSU get in a 3rd and long situation to get a big gain?
 
The article ignores CU missed two field goals of their own. Had 1 TD called back due to a BS penalty. Missed two wide open TD passes. Ignores that after spotting CSU 14 pts, CU outscored the lambs 27-10.

I had the same reaction, because it took me a minute to even remember who played QB for them last year. But then did a quick google search and he did have some good career stats. Still think it's a bit of a reach (or a comment on historically, mediocre QB play at CSU) to claim he's a generational QB.

I guess we watched different games. We rarely penetrated their LOS...the fourth and one stop...the RB put his head down and ran into the back of his own player...had he had his head up...he would have cut left and had a first down. CSU doubled the running yards of CU..AND had more passing yards....hard to say that they "sold out" stopping the run...we did not exactly light it up through the air. The first TD run by CSU was a gasher....they parted the sea and the back was not touched. We can agree to disagree...but for the second year in a row, the CSU run game was superior to the Buffs...and the CSU DL put alot more pressure on Sefo than we did on thier QB.... Glad for the win....as some one posted...at least we did not get blown off the LOS by 3 yards...progress...but they still nandled our DL.

There was rarely pressure on Sefo but when you drop long passes that are on the money the yards aren't going to be as good. So when a running back runs into his own lineman because our d player is holding his own and possibly pushing that player back that means we are geting manhandled? I didn't say the defensive line play was great I am just saying CSU wasn't as dominant as you are making it out to be. They came out and played really well the first quarter but after that it really settled down.

True. CSU is a good MWC team and will win a lot of games. Problem is CU is a pretty good MWC team too.
 
i didn't think our 2nd down playcalling was very good, especially after we only had powell left at rb. left us in too many have to pass situations. still hoping to see us use the middle third of the field more.

I take it as another desperate plug by a CSU sympathizer to get the game extended. CU had to win this year more. But still goes back to when we will, we should win. It's why CSU plays so loose. It's a no lose proposition for them. A loss to us doesn't hurt them. A win by CU doesn't really help CU.

He's a generational QB for CSU. Not for mJor teams in general.

This brings up a good question. You can argue that CU has started slow in each game this year. We also had a tendency to do that the last few years (although talent had a lot to do with that). What is the root cause of this? Why does it seem like we keep putting ourselves behind the 8 ball to start games?
 
Kid seems like a class act (soft ball here folks). Glad to have him on the team and representing CU. Go Buffs!

Which is why CSU fans aren't all that down today. The Ram fans only see one color now and that is Broncos orange. CSU blew it with back to back losses in their two high profile games. Business as usual now.
