I can explain. By conference rule, the SEC is required to have one Bulldog for every five teams in the conference (rounding to nearest multiple of five). With the addition of two new teams, a new Bulldog is needed to join Mississippi State and Georgia, and since Missouri was already required to change its name to the "Token Northern Cupcake Vaginas", it was A&M who had to convert.

They'll be about as relevant as Mississippi State (make the championship game once every 15 years or so), so it makes sense, really.
