Just listened to it. Hour 4. http://www.1043thefan.com/podcasts/Episodes.aspx?PID=2370

Klatt started screaming and his point seemed to be that despite all the things Embree said when he came in about being a "need" guy in terms of facilities instead of a "want" guy, what Embree really needed was the NFL style bells and whistles.

Lombardi told him he's too close to the situation and is making an argument that doesn't work when you see a guy like O'Brien win at PSU this year despite the dysfunction there and its top playmaker deciding to transfer before the season started. I hadn't thought about that, but the PSU situation really does make me wonder a lot more about Embree not doing more with 28 seniors last season who wanted so badly to go out with a successful season.

Yep. Have not heard the whole thing, just caught the tail end when Klatt was screaming and pounding the desk (yes, literally). He went to the "had to buy water" card--was getting pathetic.

The "bottled water" thing that Klatt continues to rant about is literally one of the stupidest things I've ever heard....I'm not aware of 1 job where your boss is stopping by all day to provide bottled water for you in order to successfully do your job.

It almost belittles the intelligence of the coaching staff any more to say they couldn't win because they couldn't figure out how to use a water fountain :smile2:

I've had one job where the company provided us bottled water, and it was because the tap water didn't meet health standards. Bring a damn nalgene and fill it up at the tap.

And never mind that there's free Gatorade in the locker room and they have training table.

Could someone explain to me the "water" and "table" issues? I got in arguments with two CU grads here at work about this. They brought it up and all I could say was that Bohn told Klatt that he doesn't have his facts straight. What is the deal with this?

Orr will be along shortly to rep you, literally...

Wow, he went back to the bottled water. Just wow. Seriously the guys in white coats need to take Klatt away for awhile. Has totally lost it.

There is chatter out there that Embree allegedly commented that they didn't have enough chairs in the meeting rooms, and Embree had to bring bottled water to work for his staff, at his expense, because CU wouldn't provide it to them.

Also, he was forced to use the same desk Hawkins used, so instead he brought his own desk from home. Very important stuff.

Apparently if Embree was having problems recruiting waterboys to the football team, how could we have expected him to be successful in Boulder?

During Evans/Klatt interview with Bohn, Klatt asked Bohn about coaches having to take time to verify class attendance (thereby taking time away from gameplanning). Bohn refuted it, and Klatt said something like, "We have different opinions then." To which Bohn fired back, "No, we have different facts."

After the interview, Klatt proceeded to claim a source and implied Bohn to be a liar.

I think Bohn may be losing his patience with these former players.

Implied? When I was listening this AM he called him a liar outright - he lied to GB, lied to Hawkins and lied to Embree.

Embree told his talking heads that he did not receive the full support of CU for his coaching endeavors. He told them that one of the reasons he was unsuccessful at CU was because he spent so much time dealing with things that were not related to coaching, that it took away from his coaching time.

His examples of this included:

1) The desk in his office was the same desk that Dan Hawkins had. For some unexplained reason, this was unacceptable to Jon Embree. Embree apparently had to spend his own money to purchase a new desk for his office.

2) There were apparently not enough chairs in the team meeting rooms for all of the players. I have not heard the full story on this one. I don't know if chairs had to be borrowed from another room, or if chairs had to be purchased out of Embree's pocket, or what.

3) Apparently the coaches were not supplied with bottled water for practice. (Why they needed bottled water has not been explained.) Therefore, Jon Embree had to purchase bottled water on his own, to provide for his coaches.

4) Klatt said that coaches had to spend a portion of their day driving around to make sure that the student athletes who were in academic jeopardy (having trouble with school) were actually going to class. Bohn told Klatt during their call yesterday that this information was incorrect, and CU had people (not coaches) who were on campus to perform these checks. Several people from Allbuffs have chimed in (and even identified people by name) to say that Klatt's information is incorrect, and in fact there are people (non coaches) who do go around to make sure kids are going to class.

Let's all remember the interview Embree gave back in 2010 shortly after being hired.

“What do I want from a facilities standpoint? If we need better computer rooms for our student-athletes, then let’s get it for them. If we need better food at training table, then let’s get that for them. If we need a treadmill that you can run on underwater for rehab, then let’s get that. That’s the stuff you need – I believe. (Those things) help your athletes directly. New buildings don’t affect your athletes directly. Nice locker rooms? Yeah, they affect you. But does it have to be a special kind of wood? Does it have to have certain engravings on everything? No. That’s where I am with the facilities. I consider myself a ‘need guy.’ I just don’t go get stuff that I want; I get stuff that I need. I believe if you get caught up in keeping up with the Joneses, and trying to have the best this or the best that, you spoil those guys.”

Had I known that the reason we sucked so bad was because the coaches were dehydrated I would have gladly swung past the Costco on the way to Boulder and picked them up a few cases of water each week.

Sure it would have set me back around about $10 a week, but seems like such a small price to pay for wins.

Also, he was forced to use the same desk Hawkins used, so instead he brought his own desk from home. Very important stuff.
I'd want a new desk too, what with all the nude Bea Arthur and Candy Crowley pictures Hawk carved into the desk.

Obviously this is ridiculous, but I remember listening to GB or somebody saying the HC is responsible for EVERY aspect of the team. As you go up the chain from position coach to coordinator to HC the responsibilities increase geometrically. Clearly Embree was in no way shape or form ready for the overall responsibility of being a HC at a major university.

Embree is pointing out why he was not qualified to be an executive. He couldn't figure out that as the chief executive, you delegate. Get an intern to bring people water, etc. He had no experience with delegating like a CEO, now he wants to complain about getting caught up in details. So glad he's gone - not HC material on so many levels.

He doesn't seem to take himself too seriously - which I appreciate.

Doubt he gets invited back to that show
He seems like a humble guy that almost seems like a fan instead of a media figure. I love it. And yea Klatt won't have anyone on except if he is a former player.

Klatt is treading dangerously close to slander, which may hinder his future employment. He'd be wise to cool it.
