And do we still make the money that was planned if our game isn't on television?

Now an NCAA source has spoken, and apparently the 5 games suspensions on Tressel, Pryor, and the other Buckeyes isn’t enough to satisfy the NCAA infractions committee.

Among the sanctions that will reportedly be levied against the University’s football program:
  • All victories from the 2009 and 2010 season will be vacated
  • Will not be televised for the 2011 season
  • Will not be allowed to partake in post season bowl games for 2011 or 2012.
  • Will lose 10 scholarships in 2011, and 5 per year in 2012 and 2013.

I don't know how college games are scheduled but I assume a contract was signed which has all sorts of legalese which covers pretty much any such situation. tOSU will have to pay what's in the contract unless there's an out for them to use.
 
Assuming this is true it would mean that OSU would be in breach of contract which would give us grounds for cancelation (I believe one of the games stipulation was that ESPN pick it up). Lets just get rid of it and add another game at Folsom. Our schedule is hard enough.
 
It would be a shame for opponents of tOSU to miss out on a television payday.

How about forcing tOSU players and fans to wear green-screen colored uniforms. Then digitally remove the Buckeyes for broadcast purposes. The announcers are homers with a bias towards tOSU's opponents and are not allowed to mention the names of any tOHS players or coaches. And 100 percent of the network proceeds are paid to the opponent.

Or perhaps Mike Bohn can reschedule Toledo for a Friday night game.
 
"NCAA source" reported by sportstales.com doesn't seem all that reputable. The NCAA is pretty unpredictable but they have been pretty hesitant to use the television ban. USC didn't even get one...
 
That sounds like a very hefty penalty. All this for some free tatoos or something?
 
I can buy the victories being vacated, and maybe a one-year bowl probation - but Ohio State is staying on TV no matter what

I would be surprised if the final penalties end up looking like that, but I do think the NCAA will hit them harder than just the five-game suspensions.

Just schedule Oregon State IMO.
 
Vacating wins is a load of bullsh*&. Does anyone really care? The losers can't alter their record. Doesn't change any standings....

Typical non-penalty reserved for the favorite children of the NCAA and tOSU is probably favorite child number one

We get punished because the one time we get to go to the Shoe, we can't watch it
 
If this deal does come down as reported, I wonder if it does impact our game there. If there's no TV, is the payout the same? If the payout isn't the same, are we still contractually obliged to play the game? If we're not, who do we replace them with? I'd certainly prefer another home game. The opponent doesn't really matter. Wyoming, UNC, UNM, Weber St. Whatever.
 
Why would they vacate all the wins, but let the players play in the bowl game, after announcing the suspensions for the 2011 season?

I don't believe anything about this report.

If there is any merit in this report somehow the NCAA/tOSU will spin this that some CU walk-on intramural athlete got a tattoo at the same place, 6 months prior to anyone from tOSU, and said athlete should have know about the infraction, notified the NCAA, and the NCAA must now hammer CU to protect the integrity of the student athlete. No TV for CU and we owe tOSU $1 mil to cover the game.
 
NCAA doesn't like lies, but I don't think they dislike them that much! why vacating the 2009 wins to? Imbelievable!
 
CU game against them is all going to depend on the contract. A few posibilities and I have no idea which one it actually is.

Bad possibility
Contract for the game with CU recieving a percentage of the expected TV money and gate. No TV so CU is stuck with a game that is not on TV that pays much less than expected in a hostile environment in a no win situation. CU loses, they have a loss and fewer dollars, CU wins they beat a team that was gutted by penalty so it really isn't that big a win afterall and nobody outside the stadium sees it to say any different.

Good possibility
The contract is for a set amount of money. OSU made it anticipating the TV money and now they are stuck with the deal. Still not a good game situation for CU but at least they get the money.

Better possibility
Contract has an out with a payout. CU gets paid a bunch of money not to play the game and fills in with another game that gives them a win while still taking a nice piece of OSU money.

Best deal (and least likely)
No buyout but OSU tries to bail out on the deal since they don't want to pay. CU schedules another game against an easy opponent, court makes OSU pay the difference between what CU makes on the replacement game and the expected revenue if the OSU game had gone as planned since OSU negligence (known rule violations) caused the game to be cancelled. CU has to wait for the money but get a win and a lot of dollars.
 
Why do you people insist on putting the "t" before OSU? **** them, and **** their self-righteous, overly pretentious asses thinking they should get to call themselves "the" anything other than "the most worthless sack of assrot in America."
 
as others have said, it would be good if we could cancel the game and replace it with a home game. but, i wouldn't want to go with a lower division opponent if we could avoid it.
