Making the Case for Jim Leavitt

OLD ARTICLE -

This randomly popped into my news feed today as it was written prior to MM hiring Jim Leavitt. Looks like he was also being considered by Oklahoma at the time. So glad we were able to lure him to Boulder and our program has risen because of all of the good he has done for this defense. Enjoy.

It is lucky we got him. There were all at KState at the same time; Stoops(89-95, DB & Co-DC), Venables (93-98 GA & LB), and Leavitt (90-95, LB & Co-DC).

Not a bad coaching tree.

The Hayden Fry/Bill Snyder tree is incredible. It's up there with Don James as one of the most impressive to me.

That is impressive, but I would say Coach Bill McCartney did quite well for himself with his coaching tree as well (Barnett, Myles, DiNardo, Neuheisel, Simmons)

One thought I took out of that is that Leavitt prefers being in a place he loves more than having a more prestigious position or school. Hopefully that bodes well for CU.

I won't get any love for saying this. We are blessed with many great coaches at CU. HCMM is a great coach and we are lucky to have him. Chev has been a great addition and we are blessed to have him. The most talented coach we have is Jim Leavitt.

Who came off the Bo Schembeckler tree who came off the Woody Hayes tree.

You guys are saps for something that doesn't matter anymore now that Spruce is in the NFL. Leaf it alone.

Note to self: reverse psychology works on all-buffs.

Gary Barnett said he thinks keeping Leavitt may be tough if he gets offered another HC position. He didn't say anything about what type of HC position (P5, etc.), but he stated Leavitt wants to be HC again.

It's hard to blame him. If I were him Id probably want a shot at overshadowing that USF part of my history too.

I cant say enough about what a difference hes made. Thank you Jim.
