went 3-8 in the Packers scrimmage last night and was booed, he was 2-6 kicking directly against the other kicker in camp. Missed from 33, 37, 43, 38 and 53.

coming off a season where he connected on merely 63% of his attempts I´d say the writing is on the wall.

Hard to see Crosby making it through camp. Sucks. Not sure what is in his head.

his leg is still very strong...but cant hit the broadside of a barn...all in his head

When I saw the tread title I thought he may have academically ineligible. What a relief

Hope he finds a place somewhere, but i learned my lesson last year, I'm picking a different kicker for fantasy football.

How does Mason go from being a great kicker to the bottom?

he seemed to struggle suddenly. He kicked a career high 85.7 % in 2011 (up from high 70s) to 63.6% in 2012. So I dug into his numbers a bit:

In 2012, he was 75% at home, but only 52.9% on the road. when winning he was 76.5%, 63.6% when trailing and 20% when the score is tied.

Now to be fair, most of his misses were from 50+. He was 19/24 inside 50 and only 2/9 outside. In 2011 he only took 3 kicks greater than 50 yards 4 in 2010, 6 tries in 2009 and 6 in 2008, and 5 in 2007.

To me it looks like 2 things.

1. The pressure was getting to him based on his road split and splits based on score
2. the distance got into his head. We have seen the same thing from Prater (can't miss except between 40 and 49) this increased the pressure and gets to his head even more.

His struggles really show how mental the game is. He was an absolute clutch kicker in college under all circumstances and distances.

Not feeling too sorry for him. He made his money. Still, one of my favorite all time Buffs.

A true difference maker at a position marginalized or neglected ever since his playing days. Kicking, of all positions, should be one where we can attract top talent year in and year out.

Yes, he signed a 5 year, $14.75 million deal back in 2011. His bonus each year is $600,000, so cutting him would create $1.8MM in dead money, but his salary cap number is ~ $3.2MM. So you could waive him and have ~$1.4MM to ink his replacement. I hope he turns it around and stays with the Packers. He was a great player for CU.

Two young ones running around in recent years could have something to do with it. I hope he turns it around as well!

.... and kicking in college should - technically - be harder due to the wider hashmarks

Maybe, but then how about your snapper and holder? You'd think in the pros, the snap and hold would be close to perfect every time. In college, not as much. Who knows?

Dude was a freak in college. I've never seen a more clutch kicker in my life. No idea what happened in the pros. Very sad to see.

Just restructured his contract.

Before agreeing to the new deal, Crosby was going to make $2.4 million in base salary. Now, Crosby will "only" make $800,000 guaranteed if he's on the roster come Sept. 7 and then have an opportunity to make $1.6 in bonuses and incentives. The other two years remaining on Crosby's contract haven't been changed.

hey being from Georgetown myself - $800,000 is a lot of money. All kidding aside, bummer for Mason...kid was amazing in college and just been hohum in the nfl, but like poster above said, kids have a way of screwing with your head.
