BOULDER – When Colorado travels to the University of Denver on Saturday, it will be the next chapter in perhaps the biggest rivalry for the Buffs in soccer. CU has only been in the Pac-12 since 2011—not enough time to develop a big rivalry. But the Buffs and Pioneers have played 21 times in 21 seasons, including two NCAA Tournament matches, tied for the most meetings between CU and any other opponent (Colorado has also played Missouri and Texas A&M 21 times each).

"We don't have a natural built-in rivalry with any Pac-12 team," head coach Danny Sanchez said. "Every game in the Pac-12 is huge for us, but if we look outside in non-conference, I think Denver is a game every year that both teams point to as a big local rivalry."

Like any good rivalry, the matchups are tense every time and often decided by one goal. In fact, the past four meetings (all CU wins) have been one-goal games and 14 of the 21 meetings have been decided by a goal, with an additional one being a tie.

Um, that should probably be 6 assists, not 7. Still, looks like the Buffs came out on a mission scoring early and late and everywhere in between. Can't wait to see the highlights.

At least per livestats, they gave 2 assists on 3 of the goals, and only 2 were unassisted.

Article on the soccer team's solid and BIG scoring win- nice lead-in to the Pac 12 season. Hope they get a likewise BIG crowd this coming Friday at 3:30 as they start off the conference season BIG by hosting #1 ranked UCLA.

BOULDER - Colorado exploded for five second-half goals and sophomore Tatum Barton netted her second brace of the season to lead the Buffs to a 6-1 win at the University of Denver on Saturday night.

The Buffs improved to 6-1-2, while DU dropped to 3-4-1.
...

NOTES: Barton and Kornieck's goals just 14 seconds apart were the 15th-fastest consecutive goals in NCAA history and the fastest in CU history ... Barton's goal at 1:29 was the third-earliest goal to start a match in school history ... CU's six goals scored are tied for the third-most in school history (8 vs. St. Mary's in 2009; 7 vs. Texas Tech in 2004; 6 vs. Minnesota in 2003) ... CU's seven assists broke the school record (previous mark was six, five times)

UP NEXT: CU will host No. 1 UCLA at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Prentup Field.

POSTGAME QUOTES:
Danny Sanchez, head coach
On the game
"I'm pleased with the team with how we played, especially in the second half. It's a good Denver team. If you look at the results the last three or four years, it's always one-goal games. It was a one-goal game at halftime, but really the key was the two early goals in the second half. That really put the stamp on the game."
