The Buffs have an early start (1:00 PM MT) Friday for their last regular season match of the season. (As noted in previous threads, a Buff win is probably necessary for them to have a decent chance at being selected for the NCAA tournament.)

Beat the Utes!

BOULDER – Colorado's soccer team is riding a four-match unbeaten streak into Friday's regular-season finale at Utah. The Buffs have yet to concede a goal during the stretch, spanning 453 minutes since the team last allowed a goal (Oct. 13 at No. 6 USC).

The recent success is building confidence for the Buffs as they prepare for a potential NCAA Tournament bid on Monday, and it comes on the heels of a three-match losing streak against top-20 foes California, Stanford and USC.

Per announcers, reason for Ms. Puketapu's late scratch was because of "flu like symptoms". (Hopefully hasn't spread through the team as sometimes seems to occur.)

And, match has just started.

Buffs score to take a 1-0 lead!

Per live stats-
"GOAL by COLO Massey, Megan (FIRST GOAL), Assist by Shymka, Camilla and Tompkins, Jalen, goal number 3 for season. [11:50]"

(Note- In addition to the aforementioned Ms. Puketapu being out, main playmaker this season Becca Rasmussen also not playing today for the Buffs. Hopefully nothing serious. (Didn't hear what is up with her.) AND, another key piece, Erin Greening, had to be assisted off the field ~1/2 way through the half after it looks like she was kneed in the hip/ thigh area.)

Still 1-0 with around 8 minutes to go.

Utah has had much of the run of play, but only a couple tough saves needed to be made by Ms. Tompkins so far.

Tatum Barton with a great fighting (one on one with a defender) goal in the last 10 seconds or so to insure the victory at 2-0!

Style points and another shutout should help with the selection committee.

Congrats again to the team for the win, and best wishes for them this weekend- may the selection committee see their quality!

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Colorado earned its third straight win and stretched its unbeaten streak to five matches on Friday, defeating Utah 2-0 at Ute Soccer Field. The Buffs finished the regular season 11-5-4 overall and 5-4-2 in the Pac-12, good for sixth place. The Utes finished the year 5-11-3 and 0-9-2.

They will now wait to find out their potential NCAA Tournament future on Monday during the selection show. The Buffs currently have an RPI of 37 and 64 teams are selected to the postseason.

CU also broke the school record for longest shutout streak in conference-only matches. The streak is now 543:05, breaking the previous mark of 463:55. Goalkeeper Jalen Tompkins also broke the individual record.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Megan Massey put the Buffs in front in the 12th minute. Tompkins took a free kick from CU's half of the field and Camilla Shymka headed the kick over to the right side of the goal mouth of the top of the box. Massey then hit a curling shot on her first touch with her left foot, scoring in the upper-right corner of the net.

Tompkins was tested in the 33rd minute when Utah's Paola Van der Veen ripped a shot from the top of the box and Tompkins made a spectacular diving save to her left to punch it away.

Taylor Kornieck nearly found the goal in the 53rd minute, firing a shot from 35 yards out and having it tipped over the crossbar by the goalkeeper.

Tatum Barton added a late insurance goal at 89:51, winning a ball at midfield, beating a defender and then beating a charging goalkeeper for the score.

KEY STATISTICS: Tompkins finished the match with five saves for her ninth clean sheet of the season. CU had the advantage in shots on goal, 6-5, despite getting outshot 13-10. Kornieck had a match-high six shot attempts, including four on goal.

NOTES: CU broke the school record for longest shutout streak in conference-only matches, now spanning 543:05, breaking the previous stretch of 463:55 from 2004-05 ... Tompkins broke the individual record for longest shutout streak in conference-only matches, now at 498:05, breaking the previous record of Jessica Keller (463:55 from 2004-05) ... Tompkins became the first CU goalkeeper to earn an assist since Kate Scheele in 2015 ... it was also CU's 14th clean sheet this season, extending the school record for shutouts in a season ... the Buffs played without their two starting forwards as Becca Rasmussen missed the match with an injury and Marty Puketapusat out with an illness ... Barton's goal at 89:51 was the fourth-latest in school history in regulation.

UP NEXT: Friday's match wrapped up the regular season. The Buffs will find out if they qualify for the NCAA Tournament during the selection show on Monday at 2:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.

POSTGAME QUOTES:
Danny Sanchez, head coach
On the match
"We were down a few players and I was just really proud. It's a cliché to step up, because these players are good players. To go on the road three straight conference games and knowing that we have to win, I'm just super proud of the effort of all of the players and the staff and everybody. Just a great team victory today."

On how the team played
"Utah's a very good team. You can see the chances they create and the good ball movement. It's just not their year. We knew going into it that this was going to be a very tough match for us. Megan Massey scoring that great goal early was key. And then we defended like chance the last 30 minutes when they were pressing us. I just thought there were players who maybe didn't have big roles throughout the year that came in and did a great job to cover for a couple of our players who were out."

On extending the shutout streak
"It's 11 players defending, it's forwards pressing and defending, our back four staying organized. It's Cassie and Sarah and Nancy and Megan and Taylor and Courtney Fedor, when she came in the midfield, that plugged everything up. And obviously JJ in goal. It's truly a team defensive performance."

On a potential NCAA Tournament bid
"At the end of the day, you never know until Monday afternoon. We did all we can do. We finished with a winning record in the Pac-12 at 5-4-2. The last five games, not giving up a goal, three of those games on the road, one against a top-25 team in the RPI in Arizona. We've done all we can do and I couldn't be prouder of the group."
