Best wishes to the soccer team as they head to the desert to face the Arizona schools in matches 2 and 3 of the Pac 12 schedule! (Hope they keep hydrated!)
(Although on the road, I know in this week's soccer show Coach Sanchez mentioned how 3 Buffs (Baucom, Tompkins and Best) hail from Arizona (all Phoenix area), and Kornieck from next door Nevada, so he hopes there's a decent Buff fan contingent at both matches.)

BOULDER – The University of Colorado soccer team moved up to No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches poll on Tuesday, following another six-goal performance last week at Oregon State.

Colorado (9-0-1, 1-0-0) jumped up five spots in the rankings from No. 23. CU's leap puts the team inside the top-20 for the first time since 2016 and it marks the team's highest ranking since a one-week stint at No. 15 in 2009.

Much of the Buffs' success can be attributed to its strong offensive play. Colorado has totaled 32 goals this season, one more than all last season. In fact, Colorado's 32 goals are more than the Buffaloes have scored in 14 of its previous seasons. The team has also set a school record with 38 assists this season.
...

Colorado dives deeper into Pac-12 play this week. The Buffs remain on the road with games at Arizona State (Sept. 27) and Arizona (Sept. 30).

"We know the next 10 games these goals are going to be a little harder to come by," Sanchez explained. "But we also have confidence that we have good personnel."

The Buffaloes return home after the road trip. Colorado will host No. 9 Washington State (Oct. 4) and Washington (Oct. 7). That weekend is the team's Alumni Weekend. Players from previous seasons will be welcomed back and recognized during the Washington game.

I don't know how ASU missed on that last shot, but it's still 1-0 CU in the 27th minute.

TEMPE, Ariz.— The No. 18 Colorado women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Arizona State on Thursday. The Buffs pick up a point in the standings and remain unbeaten on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Colorado (9-0-2, 1-0-1), just as it has all season, initiated the offense early. The Buffs pressured Arizona State early, registering four shots in the first 14 minutes.

Senior Jorian Baucom cashed in for the Buffs in the 14th minute. She took the feed from freshman Emily Groark down the left side of the box and dribbled to seven yards out. Baucom mixed up the ASU defender and struck the ball with a solid right-foot back across the net, beating ASU keeper Nikki Panas.
...

KEY STATISTICS: Tompkins played the entire game for the first time in four games. She made eight of her 12 saves after the first half. The 12 saves tied her career high set back at Missouri in 2016.

BY THE NUMBERS:
Colorado

Goals: 1
Shots: 22
Fouls: 12
Saves: 12

ASU
Goals: 1
Shots: 28
Fouls: 8
Saves: 6

UP NEXT: The Buffs head down to Tucson on Sunday to take on Arizona. The game is set for 1 p.m. MT and will be available across the Pac-12 Networks.

Notes: Career-high 12 saves for Tompkins…Tompkins' Pac-12 shutout streak came to an end at 595:00, marking the longest shutout conference shutout streak in program history…Colorado's 11-game unbeaten streak is its second longest in program history…Baucom's goal her eighth of the season…Groark picked up her seventh assist of the season.

QUOTABLE:
Head Coach Danny Sanchez
On overall performance
"I thought we started well. We were pressing them high up the field and winning the ball in good spots. One of those times Emily [Groark] played Jorian [Baucom] in and scored to go up 1-0. I felt the rest of the first half was pretty even. The start of the second half we got under some pressure. Unfortunately, we gave up the goal on the corner. After that, we made some tactical adjustments and the game evened out. I think the fans that watched the game could see that it was really stretched because of the playing conditions. Both teams were going for the three points and a draw is probably a fair result."

On the play of Jalen Tompkins and the defense
"She kept us in the game. Like I said, the game was stretched. It almost became like half-court basketball. There just was not a lot of midfield defending by either team. She did a great job. I told the team I was super proud of them because of the way they kept competing. Players like Kelsey [Aaknes] who was out after Oregon State came in and gave us big minutes. Erin Greening had been out for eight games and I thought she was fantastic. Jesse [Loren] and Kayleigh [Webb] were solid in the back. I was really pleased with the back four, Sofia Weiner as well. We just needed that one final ball and it just did not go our way in the final third."

On moving on to Arizona
"I think we can take a lot of positives from today. When you go on the road and in different conditions and different place, playing a team that is coming off a big road win—you have to take positives from that. Every Pac-12 game is going to be like this. It is all about recovery. We need to quickly recover and get our mind and bodies ready for a tough Arizona team on Sunday."

Also, wanted to mention yet another offensive record falling this season I hadn't heard about. Per the buffzone.com preview article for this match (http://www.buffzone.com/soccer/ci_32172690/game-preview-no-18-colorado-soccer-at-arizona), "With an assist on Jorian Baucom's goal at ASU, Emily Groark already has matched the CU season record for assists by a freshman with seven. Kate Russell also recorded seven assists as a freshman in 2008. Groak has collected an assist in three of the past four games.". Congrats to her!

It's already tied 1-1 in the soccer match against arizona in the 21 minute of the 1st half.
