As a "gift" for rejoining the Big 12, #19 ranked CU SOCCER (6-1-0) starts conference play with a 3 game road swing over the next week and a half. 1st off is a 1 match week as they head to Manhattan (KS version) to face off with the Kansas State Wildcats (3-3-1) this Thursday night. Then next week they have the 1st of their more normal 2 match weeks as they 1st head to Stillwater to meet up with the undefeated and #15 ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls (6-0-1) Thursday (September 19th) evening before ending the road swing in Ames playing the Iowa State Cyclones (2-3-2) Sunday beginning at 11:00 AM MT (Noon Iowa time).
(With an 11 match Big 12 conference schedule planned, every season will be uneven for conference road vs. home matches, with CU scheduled to be home 5 times and road warriors 6 times in 2024.)

All matches will be available for those with premium ($) ESPN+ subscriptions. (See more details and links near the bottom of this post.)

Go Buffs!!!

(There are no cubuffs previews available for any of the matches as I type this.)

Eve of the Big XII

CU travels to Kansas State tomorrow for their first conference match of the season. It will mark their first Big XII match since 2012. And the Big XII isn’t what it was back then with Nebraska, Texas and Texas A&M gone and thus weakening the conference’s RPI. Certainly, this version of the Big XII won’t be nearly as tough as the Pac 12 the Buffs experienced.

Remember that the Big XII title will be determined by a tournament in Kansas City, which will also determine the automatic NCAA tourney bid.

The chart below shows the current RPIs for all the Big XII teams. Those in yellow are the teams CU will face this season.

The Buffs have a good shot at a conference title this season and they are clearly going to get an NCAA tourney bid with an RPI of 24, assuming it doesn’t drop a lot by the end of the season.

Prior to the season three Buffs were named to the preseason all-Big VII team:

  • Shyra James 5th Yr F
  • Faith Leyba Jr. D
  • Jordan Nytes So. GK

In addition to the above the following players should be in the running for post-season honors:

  • Hope Leyba So F
  • Ava Priest SO D/M
  • Michaela Rosenbaum Gr. M
  • Greer Maguire Jr D

Buffs SCORE in the 49th minute!

Holly gets a pass from Curren that sees her clear of any defenders to the right-side of the goal about 12 yards out from the goal and she gets it past the goalie for her 1st goal since she scored the Buffs 1st goal of the season in the season opener.

good win. I like they are finding ways to win without Shyra having to score most of the goals. I thought it was funny when the CU graphic for the game came out and they said it was the programs first ever big 12 win.

Jace Holley (Fr., Fort Collins) who scored the goal for the Buffs is gonna be really good as both an attacking midfielder and forward. She's already making a push to be a starter and I am sure she'll score more critical goals for CU this season.

Okie State is 8-0-1 this season and has yet to concede a goal. The lone blemish to their record is a 0-0 draw with Texas State at home.

CU has conceded 4 goals in 8 matches this season, with 6 consecutive shutouts. Three of those goals were in the loss to North Carolina early in the season.

Both teams are 1-0 in Big XII play.
