Buff Soccer (1-0-0, 0-0-0) has added a match (to replace the CSU "No Contest" from last week) for this Wednesday as it hosts the Colorado School of Mines beginning at 4:00 PM MT, with a free live stream scheduled. Also, per the below, admittance is free for those who can attend this match live. (Note - Per the Mines preview linked to below, this will be exhibition for them (D2 schools evidently can't have an official match until 9/2), while it will "count" for CU.)

Then, it's probably the marquee matchup of this season's non-conference slate as the Buffs host last season NCAA runner-up and pre-season poll #1 as it hosts FSU (2-0-0, 0-0-0) beginning late Sunday morning. Coverage for this match is scheduled for the Pac 12 Networks.

Go Buffs!!!

BOULDER – Colorado head coach Danny Sanchez announced the addition of Colorado School of Mines to the Buffaloes' schedule this week, set to be played on Wednesday (4 p.m.).

The game fills the hole that was left by Colorado State in what was supposed to be last Thursday's season-opener. The addition puts Colorado back to nine home matches this season.

"We are really appreciative of Colorado School of Mines agreeing to play on such short notice," Sanchez explained. "They are a top program, and it will be great preparation for both squads so early in the season."

Colorado Mines went 7-0-3 last season and lost in the semifinals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament to CSU Pueblo in penalties. The Orediggers played Wyoming in an exhibition match last Friday, resulting in a 2-1 loss in Laramie.

Admission to Prentup Field on Wednesday will be free.

No score in the 13th minute. Buffs, with a couple exceptions, using different starters in this one.

Was at the match this evening. Not sure there is much to take from the match. CU played a mix of starters, and back ups in both halves.

Florida State is in town Sunday morning. That will be about the toughest match they play this season.

BOULDER— Three goals in 25 minutes helped the Colorado soccer team improve to 2-0-0 in the young season at Prentup Field on Wednesday.

The Buffaloes triumphed over Colorado School of Mines, in a game that didn't exist on either team's schedules until Monday. Unique circumstances left Colorado short one game and looking to fill a hole. Colorado Mines stepped up and agreed to play CU for the first time in series history.

"The first thing I want to say is that I how appreciative I am of Colorado School of Mines and their head coach Kevin Fickes to come out and play us on short notice," head coach Danny Sanchez commented postgame. "They are a first-class team. You can see the quality of their program and for them to come out on short notice and give us a match, speaks volumes about their team. I'm sure their players cherish this opportunity and improved and played well."

All three goals for CU came in the first half, as they did last Thursday against Colorado State.

BOULDER – Colorado soccer has its biggest task of the young season on hand this Sunday, taking on No. 1 Florida State (11:30 a.m.) on the Pac-12 Networks. It will be FSU's first-ever visit to the state of Colorado.

The Buffaloes and Seminoles have met twice, both times in Tallahassee. FSU has won both matches, the last coming in a closely battled 3-2 overtime result in 2019. Sunday's match is the return of the home-and-home series that was scheduled.

"This is easily the most anticipated, non-conference game we've had," head coach Danny Sanchez commented. "When you play top-five teams [in Pac-12 play] on a Thursday and Sunday it doesn't feel the same. You have a build-up to it. There's going to be a huge crowd. I encourage people to get here super early, so they don't miss any action. Sunday does have a different feel to it."

Colorado (2-0-0) is no stranger to playing the top-ranked team in the country. The Buffs have matched up against a No. 1 eight times in program history, five of them have either been UCLA or Stanford. CU is still looking for its first upset of a No. 1. The team's last shot at No. 1 Stanford in 2018. The highest-ranked opponent a CU team has defeated was No. 5 Texas A&M in College State in 2010.

Originally CU had the entire week to train and game plan for FSU, but the fallout from the Colorado State match forced a slight shift. Coach Sanchez added Colorado Mines to the schedule on Monday and played them to a 3-0 decision on Wednesday.

"Sometimes coaches overthink things," Sanchez said of the decision. "We play two games a week. That's what we do for the majority of the season. This early in the year, our players need to play. We're still trying to find ourselves, still trying to identify players that can be in the rotation when we get to Pac-12 play. I'd rather play a good team [Colorado Mines] on Wednesday and still have a couple of days of preparation."

Florida State (3-0-0), also the 2020 national runner-up, comes to Boulder after defeating South Alabama 4-0 in Tallahassee on Thursday. Gianna Mitchell and Beata Olsson lead the Seminoles with two goals apiece. FSU has outscored its opponents 9-0 through the first three games.

Neither Dani Hansen nor Bella Grust has allowed a goal in CU's first two matches. Colorado's strong defensive play has carried over from 2020 and the team's offense has been clicking early on. The Buffs have eight players with at least one point, compared to 12 all of last season. Sophomore Shyra James lead the team in both points (4) and goals (2).

"We're going to keep things in perspective and really enjoy the moment," Sanchez added. "I told the team we're going to enjoy the opportunity. We never look ahead but we turn around and play another top-five team on the road at TCU next Thursday. Whatever happens Sunday, we still have 14 regular-season games to go. That's a lot of soccer."

Fans are encouraged to buy tickets online (http://buffs.me/3gGaWBc) to avoid the anticipated lines outside the field.

I wasnt able to make it up to boulder for this game and am watching it on tv... Jesus christ Justin Adams is even worse at this than he is the post game shows on KOA. Couldn't Pac-12 network find anyone better? This feels like its his first soccer game ever.

thought this the last couple of years. Gotta find ways against the better teams to not just sit back and let them pepper the goal with shots. 15 shots with 6 on goal to just 1 shot for the buffs. That just does not cut it, but nice effort

normally id agree, but that was the 2nd shot FSU had allowed all year... and the first goal

I get if it is one game but you go to the Fl St game 2 years ago and Fl state had like 20 shots and the North Carolina game and others. They have to create more chances for themselves

Like i said, normally i'd agree with you, but this FSU team should(Likely Will) win the National Title in a walk this year.

Was at the match. Wasn't as close as the score indicated. CU scored on their one shot on goal. For the most part they had a difficult time advancing the ball into dangerous areas. And they gave up a lot of possession. Frequently when they played a ball out of the back for a teammate FSU beat the Buff player to the ball.

CU did a good job in the first half of limiting the Seminoles shots on goal. But in the second half FSU was able to get more time on the ball and obviously that lead to a pair of goals.

CU's goal, scored by Alllie Palangi was beautiful. The service by Jade Babcock-Chi was hit into open space with just the right pace for Palangi to head home.

It about 15 minutes or so to get into the stadium and it appeared there was preparation to deal with that many people.
