SOCCER (5-0-1) finally hits the road for a couple stern tests after a nice 6 match homestand to start the season. 1st off is a trip to the midwest to face off this Sunday afternoon with the Wisconsin Badgers (4-1-0). Then, it's back to Boulder for a few days before they make the short trip southeast to meet the Denver Pioneers (DU; 2-0-3) Thursday evening.

Not that it means much of anything for this season, but in the final RPI ratings for last (2024) season (dated 12/9/24, https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-women/d1/ncaa-womens-soccer-rpi ), CU ended up at #50, while Wisconsin was #25 and DU #87.

Personally, a little bummed that I won't be able to watch streams for either match, as they require premium subscriptions to the Big 10+ and Summit League services. (See more details and links near the bottom of this post.)

Go Buffs!!!

Buffs Set for First Road Test

Colorado takes on Wisconsin on Sunday

By: Seth Pringle, Athletic Communications

MADISON, Wis. –
After six matches at home to start 2025, the Colorado Buffaloes are ready for their first road matchup of the season. Head coach Danny Sanchez and Co. will head to Big 10 Country to take on Wisconsin (11 a.m. MT).

Colorado (5-0-1) enjoyed its six-match start at Prentup Field, jumping into the national spotlight with 26 goals and a +21 goal differential, both top-5 nationally. Colorado also ranks second in total assists (26) and third in total points (78).

Now it's time to take the show on the road.

"We've had a great stretch at home," Sanchez expressed. "I think it's time to get on the road. Less distractions. We can really kind of bond again as a team. We're excited to get to Wisconsin."

Wisconsin (5-1-0) is coming off a 3-0 win over Northern Illinois and has allowed just three goals against this season. The Badgers pose a good test for the Buffaloes, playing their second NCAA Tournament team from the 2024 field.

"There's a lot of parity in women's soccer," Sanchez added. "I think that to go the road, face a team that was a Sweet 16 team last year, and will be a tournament team again this year, is a great opportunity for us."

Hope Leyba and Jace Holley both lead the charge for the Buffs, ranking third in the NCAA in total points with 18 apiece. All the team's offensive success seems like a luxury at the moment, but CU knows how hard it can be to come by goals at any given moment. The Buffs had just one goal in the last five regular-season games of 2024 and were shutout in the final four regular-season matches.

"There are games, and probably Sunday, where we're not going to get as many opportunities as we've been getting," Sanchez noted. "Having said that, obviously, we have quality players that we have a lot of confidence in to hopefully keep the momentum going in the attack."

Sunday's game will be streamed online on the Big 10 + Network.

About 2 hours until the opening kick of the 1st road match of the season.

Pretty hard to evaluate or guess soccer action based on stats, but looks like the 1st half was pretty even, with the Buffs holding small advantages in shots (3 to 2) and corners (4-2), and teams tied at 1 for shots on goal.

It's tied at 0 after 45 minutes.
