Before they can worry about their conference season opener (scheduled for next Saturday afternoon in Berkeley), Buff soccer (4-3-0, 0-0-0) faces a tough match in Denver vs. the DU Pioneers (5-3-0, 0-0-0) tomorrow afternoon.

For anyone in the Denver area interesting in attending, looks like tickets ($8 general admission, $12 reserved with chairbacks) can be purchased at https://denverpioneers.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventInfo?ticketCode=GS:DENVER:S22:WS07:&linkID=denver&shopperContext=&pc=&caller=&appCode=&groupCode=&cgc=, as well (I assume???) onsite before the match .

If it's like previous DU events I've posted about, I believe a video stream will only be available for those with a premium ($) DU "Pioneers All-Access" subscription.

Go Buffs!!!

"
DENVER – Colorado will take to Ciber Field at the University of Denver for the second time this season on Sunday (1 p.m.). The Buffaloes will renew its rivalry with the Pioneers, playing for the 27th time in series history.

Colorado (4-3-0) has had more success against the Pioneers than any other opponent in program history. CU owns a 17-8-1 all-time record versus Denver, including a current nine-game wins streak. The last time the Buffs didn't get a result against the Pioneers came in a 1-0 loss on Nov. 16, 2013, at DU.

"DU is a very good team," head coach Danny Sanchez explained. "They will be the favorites in the Summit League by a mile. They've had some up and down results. They beat Utah. Had a disappointing loss to Grand Canyon but turned around and beat Northern Arizona 6-2. They are very well-coached as we all know."

Typically, the series has been closely contested between the two sides. Of the previous 26 meetings, only six matches have been decided by two or more goals. The last nine meetings have all been within two goals, except for a 6-1 Colorado win in 2017.

"[Sunday] will be like every other DU game since I've been here except for one," Sanchez added. "They have all been nip and tuck until the end. Whoever plays well and finds those moments to be special will be who wins."

Last year's meeting saw the Buffs prevail in the 97th minute in Boulder. The game kicked off the unusual 2020 season in February, ending fittingly in an own goal.

Denver (5-3-0) dropped its match against Washington State (2-0) to start the weekend on Thursday. The Pioneers have outscored their opponents 22-13 this season, but have allowed more than one goal in each of its last four games.

CU previously beat Colorado College 1-0 in overtime at DU. Shyra James scored the game-winner in the Buffs' de facto season-opener.

Sunday's match is going to be live-streamed online (CUBuffs.com/WatchSoc). A subscription is required to access the stream.

DENVER – Colorado super senior Shanade Hopcroft contributed a career-high four points on Sunday, helping the Buffs to a 3-1 win over instate rival Denver. The win extends CU's streak to 10 consecutive over Denver.

The Aylesbury, England, native, was the best player on the pitch for either side. Hopcroft, using her COVID-19 year, had points on all three of CU's goals, recording two assists and a goal of her own.

"She's a woman on a mission," head coach Danny Sanchez said of Hopcroft's efforts. "That's what we need out of her. Her movement was excellent. Her confidence and engine just never stop. It was a great performance from Shanade for sure."

Colorado finished non-conference play with a 5-3-0 record and moves to 18-8-1 all-time against the Pioneers. Colorado finishes 3-0 against in-state opponents this season, after missing out on a chance to compete for the Colorado Cup.

"We talked before the game about how it was disappointing to not have a chance to win the Colorado Cup," Sanchez added. "We felt coming into this match that we've now played four teams [including Colorado State] and won all those games so it was extra motivation for us today."

Denver, the 2021 Colorado Cup champions fall to 5-4-0.

Notes: Third career goal + assist game for Hopcroft (second this season)…her four points mark her career-high at CU (had a six-point game against Colorado Christian while playing at UCCS)…Hopcroft now leads the team with 8 points (2 G, 4 A)…Rosen's goal was her second of the season…Gonzalez's goal was the first of her career and her first point since her assist in CU's 6-0 win over Northern Colorado in the 2019 NCAA Tournament…Gonzalez became the 14th different player to record a point for CU this season and the team's 10th different goal scorer…Freshman Holly Hunter returned to the Colorado bench on Sunday, having missed the last five games.
