Still 1-0 at the half. WSU still getting the bulk of possession, but the Buffs did have a few good opportunities late.

On the goal, GREAT individual effort by Becca Rasmussen, going through and around 4-5 Cougars to get a decent shot off that the goaltender stopped but couldn't hold onto. Puketapu got the rebound and, with the goalie still away from the net after the 1st save, she only had to get the ball by a defender to score, which she did.

Highlight of a beautiful save by Tompkins which kept the match scoreless earlier in the 1st half.

Buffs get the win- final 2-0. Way to go!

(At about the 85th minute, long-time starter Sarah Kinzner got stepped on after making a pass and hurt her left ankle. She walked off gingerly with assistance, and they showed her with ice around the ankle near the end of the match. Hopefully nothing major- (assume a sprain of some sort?).)

Important and big win for the Buffs! The conference is brutally tough and they have six road matches this season, so they are going to have to win on the road multiple times.

For big parts of the match Wazzou looked like they had control things and were likely to score, although most of their shots were from outside the box. They won a zillion corner kicks too, but weren't able to get the ball on target most of the time.

Both of CU's goal were the result of some exceptional one v one work by Becca Rasmussen although she didn't score either time. She was the best attacking player for the Buffs tonight.

Hope Sarah Kinzner's injury wasn't too severe.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Colorado earned its first Pac-12 win of the season on Thursday night, winning 2-0 over Washington State on the road at Lower Soccer Field in Pullman. The Buffs improved to 7-2-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the Pac-12, while WSU dropped to 5-3-2 overall and 0-2-0 in the Pac-12.

Marty Puketapu scored in the 30th minute and the Buffs added a second goal early in the second half by way of an own goal by the Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Jalen Tompkins made a couple of key saves in the first 15 minutes, including one in the 13th minute when she leaped and dove to her left to push a ball out of bounds with one hand.

In the 30th minute Becca Rasmussen put a good, hard shot on goal from inside the right half of the box and her rebound deflected to the left side of the goal where Puketapu tapped it in to put the Buffs up 1-0.

The Buffs doubled their lead in the 52nd minute. Rasmussen again created the chance, sending a ball through the mouth of the goal to the far left post where WSU's Sydney Pulver deflected the ball in after pressure from Sarah Kinzner.

UP NEXT: CU heads to Seattle to take on Washington at 1 p.m. MT on Sunday. That match will not be televised.

A couple videos, both with highlights-
Interview with Becca Rasmussen-

Pac 12 Network recap-

No score at half. I'd say Washington with a majority of the possession but little pressure in the final third by EITHER team. Looking at the stats, Washington has 6 shots total vs. 4 for the Buffs, with both goaltenders showing as only having to have made 1 save so far.

And it's a 0-0 final. Two solid teams played this weekend***, 1-0-1/ 4 points the result- not bad at all, especially on the road. Congrats to the team!

Team now needs to get ready to host probably the toughest weekend of the year, at least on paper- playing #11 Cal on Thursday and #2 Stanford on Sunday.

(***By way of comparison, Utah came into the weekend ranked #24, and lost both matches to the 2 Washington's by a combined 0-5 score.)

BOULDER - Colorado settled for a scoreless draw at Washington on Sunday afternoon. The Buffs are now 7-2-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the Pac-12, while the Huskies are 8-3-1 and 1-1-1. By earning a point with the draw, it was a four-point weekend on the road after a 2-0 win at Washington State on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The first half was relatively quiet with only one shot on target for each team.

...

KEY STATISTICS: Tompkins finished with four saves for her fifth solo shutout of the season and CU's ninth clean sheet. Washington outshot the Buffs 16-9, but shots on goal were an even 4-4.

NOTES: This was the third scoreless draw CU has played this season (also vs. Colorado State and CSUN), tying the school record set in 2007 for most in one season ... CU was playing without Sarah Kinzner, who suffered an injury late in Thursday's match at Washington State (a 2-0 win in Pullman) ... she was a game-time decision on Sunday ... Alex Vidger returned to the lineup after sitting out Thursday's match for receiving two yellow cards against UCLA a week ago.

UP NEXT: The Buffs will host No. 11 California on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

POSTGAME QUOTES:
Danny Sanchez, head coach
On the game
"I felt it was kind of a typical Sunday game on a doubleheader weekend. I was happy with how we competed and really happy with how we defended. You could tell our legs were a little heavy going forward and not having Sarah Kinzner in the midfield kind of stretched us a little bit. But I was really pleased with how our players stepped up and players had to play maybe some more minutes than they normally would in a Sunday game, but they never looked tired, they looked fit and they competed to the end. Even towards the end of the second overtime, I thought we were still pressing for the game-winner."
