Matt Russell arrested

I hope they throw the book at him . . . . just like anyone else who drinks, drives, and puts other people at risk.

That said this will be a relatively small issue in his position in the NFL. If he gets more of them then it will be a problem but pro football executives are employed by a private employer and the public looks at them differently.

If he were an employee of CU the media would be all over this one. Some other universities it would barely touch the papers but the relationship between CU and the Colorado media means he would probably be all over the front page.

I don't know whether Phil can hold his liquor or not, but there's nothing "alleged" about his multiple DUI offenses.
 
The Denver Post showed incredible restraint by not linking Russell to CU until the closing paragraph.

I'm pleasantly surprised that the headline editor chose to mention the Broncos instead of the Buffs in the headline.

You can bet if Henderson had written the article it would have had a totally different slant.

No question. Bad judgement to start and continue drinking without a plan for how to make sure he wouldn't be driving. Lots of people do it but that isn't an excuse.

Looks like a guy who has had way to much to drink, went out and got stupid, wrecked some cars, and still isn't close to sober when the pics were taken. Also just starting to realize that he is in deep ****.

Why not? Not my choice of vehicle but just because he has a high profile job doesn't mean he should be driving a brand new car every year. Some of the Tundras actually look like a good vehicle for a trip to a place like Breck.

Just plain stupid. I wonder if he doesn't have it or if he was just so drunk that he couldn't find his evidence of insurance in the car. From the looks of the pictures he may not have been able to find his own face at the time of the arrest and booking.

This could get pretty ugly for him. The NFL has been public about trying to crack down on players embarrassing actions. The players have complained that what goes for the players should go for team executives and coaches. Russell is in perfect position for the league to "show" that they mean everyone. He is high up in an organization without being an owner or GM.

The article also states that he hit one car, continued on then hit a police car injuring the police officer in the car. The injuries to the police officer and property damages may give the judge reason to give him some additional jail time even though he apparently doesn't have prior DUIs that we know about.

Browns president got a 30 day suspension and 100k fine for something similar.

Very good comparison. People can talk about "celebrities" and "sports figures" getting special treatment but I think this is going to end up hitting him a lot harder than it would for the average joe.
 
Now their director of pro personnel, Tom Heckert, has been arrested on DUI too. Actually occurred back on June 11th but it's just coming out now. What an ugly mess.
 
I know that I'm late to the party, mainly because I initially thought this was just a DUI. But he rear ended a police car, after already hitting another car? What a complete and utter dumb ass.

He is so fortunate that he didn't seriously injure or kill somebody. I won't cry any tears for him if he is fired because of this. It is one thing if you have maybe had one too many, and were just above the legal limit, but he brought it on himself.
 
He was hammered. Blew something like a .25. Three times over the legal limit.

Tom Nalen raises an interesting point in that the Broncos are cowards for covering up the Heckert DUI ... if they´d thrown the book at Heckert, Russell wouldn´t have done it, I guess.
 
What I don't get, is all of the athlete & celebrity types including those who work in fairly lofty positions that make a ton of $$$ can't seam to afford a taxi, chauffeur, or even offer someone 100.00 bucks to drive them where they need to go. Then they go out and do something stupid like this. Completely avoidable. I guess common sense goes out the window when your that hammered.

There is the occasional taxi, but you'd be waiting a damn long time. That said driving drunk in Frisco is jsut dumb the cops are always trolling main st looking for people to bust for breaking the 20mph limit.

Blows my mind too,if I'm not mistaken the NFL has a hotline for players to call for a ride.Not sure if its extended to admins/executives,but I doubt they would hang up on him if he said he needed a ride cause he was hammered.
