I submit Matt Russell, Director of Player Personnel for YOUR Denver Broncos as the next AD for the University of Colorado.

If I'm Benson/DiStefano, I want to pass the buck. The only possible way they can do that is to relieve Mike Bohn of his duties, hire a new AD, and give him/her (I had to throw "her" in there ya know because I'm PC) full reign. With that chess move, they then deflect blame. So, if I were Bruce, I'd reach out to Matt Russell.

Ceal Barry is a legitimate candidate if Bohn is replaced.
 
Wait we just realized that hiring a former star player with questionable qualifications for Head Coach was maybe a bad idea, but we want to try the same strategy for our next AD?

Absolutely not. It is time to clean house completely. No more McCartney Tree hires. Time to get new blood at Colorado.

So, now that this "experiment" seems to have failed, you will never consider hiring anyone with CU ties again? That is folly, my friend.

My son served her at a function at the St. Julien. She treated him like ****. Pissed me off. I got the impression that she is not a very likable person. I also had a coworker who's daughter went on a bball recruiting trip there. Same thing.

But, I will admit. I do like her as a basketball commentator. She does a good job. She comes across well. So, my personal feelings certainly do not disqualify her.

I didn't say ever again. I just said that we need to stop living in the past with the McCartney era. We desperately need new blood.

It's not that, DBT. People are simply not in the mood to hear about another person floated for a key CU job because the person played at CU or was on a coaching staff.

Regarding Matt Russell, what in his background gives him any insight into what it takes to manage a college athletic department?

Why do we need to hire a former Buff? McCartney was not a Buff. Let's get the next McCartney. By the way Rick Neuheisel and Gary Barnett are from the McCartney tree, I am including all of them. Right now there is a very powerful McCartney tree faction that is exerting a lot of pressure to protect Embree and EB from warranted criticism. You hear one squeak from CJ, Barnett, Alfred Williams, Klatt, or McCartney even remotely criticizing Embree? That is scary because all of them are local media personalities that have voices that are heard by a lot of people. It is time to cut the cord.

Edit: He IS director of player personnel for the Broncos. I believe, in that position, he is in charge of the evaluating college players, prioritizing the draft, negotiating contracts. But, on reflection, he is not a politician.

I was wrong. I thought he was Director of Player Development or something. He is Director of Scouting. But he is a very sharp guy who has spent 13 years scouting in the NFL. So, yeah, I probably misspoke. I had him placed higher in the hierarchy than he is.

Yeah, not good AD material based on those qualifications. But maybe a head coach or coordinator?

What exactly does any of that have to do with being an AD?
 
DBT I applaud your seeing that we have problems throughout the AD and suggesting new candidates. It will be interesting to see where this goes because the state of the program suggests that there need to be major changes across the board. I would suggest that if Bohn does take the fall here, that we get some fresh faces with experience in that can evaluate the program from top to bottom and then place their stamp on the program by laying out a vision and plan for rectifying the problems. I also would advocate for bringing in someone without any ties but extensive experience and get a real independent and credible plan which would include leadership for the football program.

not sure if that can be accomplished under Benson and DiStefano but my guess is that the AD is going to be the first fall guy. The new AD, if the CU Admin has the balls to make the move, can then start the building process. My guess is that brining in a new FB staff will be one of his/her first moves.

I think Ceal Barry would be an intriguing possibility. Nik was telling me at Buffs Madness about her, and she doesn't sound like someone who would put up with losing.
