Maybe CU Was A Bit Overrated ?

They got exposed their last two games by better teams.
I'm not taking away their 10 wins but many of those were against inferior teams who themselves may have been overrated too.

And, maybe, the Pac 12?

Team still won at Stanford and vs Utah, which will both finish in the Top 25. Blew out the teams they were supposed to and got the monkey off their backs against some super talented teams that had our number in the past (UO & UCLA). I think if you look at the season, there's a clear pattern that tells you exactly where this team was. Not at a level to beat Top 10 teams, but a very good football team that didn't lose to anyone below that caliber.

This is a team that is a top 25 team, not top 10.

Parley this year into a solid recruiting class, and consistently pull top 20 classes, and what happened last night won't happen again. We are a year ahead of where the rebuild said we should be. Next year is setting up very nicely, and 2018 has the chance to be a conference championship possible year.

We should be elated at the season we had, while recognizing we are not ready for prime time.

Replace Leavitt, recruit like mad. Come back better.

I wouldn't say overrated as much as over performing their talent much of the year.

We had some issues last night with Spoon playing hurt, Chido with turf toe, and some others. Add the offense going 3 and out with frequency in the first half and our lack of depth on defense killed us. For CU to win against top opponents everything has to work and last night it didn't.

We also played a team that if not for a giant collective team game fart against Central Michigan playing a terrible game that allowed them to lose in a freak ending would have been easily in the top 10.

Our four losses this year Michigan after Sefo got hurt
USC 21-17 with Montez starting
and the last two to UW and OSU in beat downs. It looked like with the last two that we just ran out of steam, played poorly, got our lack of depth exposed, and were figured out by teams who we didn't figure out.

Our offense went stale, in large part because teams figured out how to abuse our OL and also in part because M2 stayed with Sefo even when he was clearly not 100%. The combination meant that our offense became predictable and easy to defend.

The defense also dealt with injuries, the above mentioned plus more to the DBs hurt a lot, also our lack of depth in the DL and our season long weakness at LB. We also lacked our inspirational coaching leader in JL for the last one and I wonder if he was actually focused much on UW since he had to already know that he was leaving for the Ducks. Against UW we certainly played like JL had other things on his mind.

SIAP, but I heard someone on the radio this morning mention that Chido was playing with turf toe. I don't know if that is/was pretty common knowledge, but definitely wasn't something I was aware of, and completely makes sense. I don't care how good their receiver is; there's no way Chido gets his lunch eaten like that if he's 100%.

CU, in reality is somewhere between 20 and 25. The opportunity to go up is there. Legit top 20 teams expose them. The P12 was off this year too. So, CU gets substantially better, the P12 slips, and maybe they look a little better than they really are. No shame there. I'll take a 10 win season any day of the week.

Maybe, looks that way, sadly. BUT! Hold onto our current class and I think we will be an even better team next year. We might now win as many games but we will be a better team.

Yeah. MacIntyre said after the game that Chido had turf toe and Spoon had a shoulder injury that didn't allow him to lift his arm above his shoulder. Neither guy was able to practice for the past week and a half. When I look at a team like Stanford and the depth they have, there's a good example of how bad of a turn a defense can take when your top 2 cover corners aren't able to perform due to injury. This was a big deal in the game. Our CBs looked like they were just trying to stay with guys instead of playing with the usual swag and trying to make plays. Still would have lost last night regardless, but they made OSU's QB look like Tom Brady.

That's too bad. I definitely figured we would be rolling at 100% into this game. Like the Broncos, our 3 CBs were the reason our defense was a top unit all season long.

Good season, team played different last quarter of the season which I can't really explain. The offense went backwards.

Hoping for 7-8 wins next year but lots of big decisions coming up especially with DC.

I'm having a bit of a problem with judging teams and their true quality based on what's essentially a glorified practice session after a full month off. Unless you're in the playoff, it's more about the fans and the players, especially the seniors, rather than the result.

I think CU ends up in the final rankings about where they should be. I expect them to be around 16-18th ??

Knew something had to be up with chido. With him and spoon hurting, probably didn't have a chance against their high powered offense. Both lines got exposed big time and osu took full advantage. One hell of a season and think we will see 10 plus win seasons going forward. Get that dc that fits and finish the recruiting season strong! One hell of a year

Bowl games don't really matter, they're good to give the fans a day out, for the program to promote itself, for the seniors to have their last hooray etc. but the on-field product can (and should be) be safely disregarded.

I think the current bowl system is flawed and there should be some changes like giving you a chance to use redshirt players without them using a year of eligibility.

Why would anyone pay all that $ to watch a glorified scrimmage?

I disagree but I think bowl games should be your super bowl. It looks like I'm in the minority.

Why do people pay the money? To have a day out late in the year, reflect on the season, see some players for the last time etc. I think it's more about the social event rather than solely the game.

Even though we continued to win against poor to good competition, something felt off to me starting around the Stanford game. Offense took a bad turn around there. We managed to scratch out victories against some good teams after that, but the offense felt like it was getting the ball in the end zone on pure guts and fumes. Easy drives and long scores were almost nonexistent.

They mentioned on tv that Chido had turf toe. I've never had that before but heard it's a painful mother****er.

I always though tit was BS. But I got turf toe from walking a lot. Before we went on a two week vacay where we were going to be walking a lot, we went for a 2-3 mile walk every morning for a couple of months to get ready. I developed turf toe (I know, pretty pathetic). I does hurt like a mother and takes a long time to go away.

Mark Johnson and Gary Barnett mentioned it on the radio. When Chido didnt lineup on kickoff team it was thought he wasnt going to play. But he gutted it out and turf toe is bad for quick starts, stops, and changing directions.

Our league schedule turned out to be backloaded. Three of our first four league opponents finished with losing records.
