LET's ****ING GOOOOOO
Dear Mr. Snow:
Often times I’m asked “Why, Colorado?” My response is always the same, to win I believe you have to have great facilities and great tradition.
What Rick George has been able to accomplish on the facilities front with each one of you is a testament to your commitment and a necessary piece to bringing this program back to where it belongs among the nation’s elite.
We’re not there yet, but I hope through the first month of the season you’re beginning to see hints of what Colorado Buffaloes football will be like. We will be the best-conditioned team on the field and we will be relentless. I believe you’ve seen that in our first four games.
We are a team that’s built to play 60 minutes or more at a non-stop and high velocity pace. After Arizona State, I felt we could’ve played another half with the same intensity. That will be the foundation of Colorado Football.
You’ve seen our team wear down other teams after halftime. Our defense has been far from perfect, but in the third quarter we’ve given up just six points in four games, producing three turnovers, three sacks and five punts, including three 3-and-outs in 12 combined possessions.
And it’s not just on defense, the second half is when the offensive line has been able to exert its will and play tough, physical football when it matters most. Against Colorado State, I told the team at halftime it would be a 60-minute game and we turned a 24-21 lead into a 21-point win. Down 17-0 against our friends to the east, I told the team we just took everything they could throw at us and we haven’t even scratched the surface.
We played our best football late against Air Force on both sides of the ball but came up a little short. Last week, I wanted the type of game we got. I wanted to prove we could go on the road, go toe to toe with a ranked team, and come out on top. We did just that, we broke a 29-game losing streak to ranked teams on the road, which was the longest streak among Power Five schools. Our last road win against a ranked team was 17 years ago to the day, when Gary Barnett's Buffs went to UCLA and pulled out a win in 2002.
I'm also proud of our entire team effort against Arizona State. "Next man up" isn't just a saying, it's part of how we will build Colorado Football. We will coach everybody, that’s our mentality. Every one of our players, every member of our staff, contributes to what we do and they are all integral in our success. Your support as a donor to football is also critical to our success. You have and will continue to be a huge part of our team.
That is who we will be. That is Colorado Football.
