Montez should start

Funny thing is, Sefo put up Heisman numbers tonight.

23/33, 318 yards, 9.6 YPA, 1 TD, 0 Int, 66 rushing

But watching the game, it was pretty mediocre. Couple drops hurt him. But couple worm burners and overthrows hurt him, too. And he fumbled twice, losing 1. I thought it was very much a "shake the rust off", mediocre performance. He can play a lot better than that.

It was a very emotional game for him, coming back from the injury, last chance to beat CSU, and the pressure of getting to a bowl game this year. Hopefully he'll settle down.

He just looks kind of mechanical and labored to me. Hard to explain. But the results were nice, for sure.

No way Sefo survives a 12 game season playing like that. He's a warrior, but he'll serve the team better by not risking his body running the ball so much and taking the hit instead of sliding.

If preserving Sefo's health for USC, Stanford, and Utab means sitting for Idaho, then I'm down with that. I'd be pissed to see Sefo get injured in a blowout if Idaho.

Our backup QBs are the future and they need reps.

I agree with everything you said. I also appreciate that you've had as much to drink tonight as me.

Sefo need the reps in a game where other things on the team are happening the right way. 3.5 quarters next week, and not trying to take the game on his shoulders. And ****ing slide you dumbass!

Couldn't believe that. He's got heart but he's dumb as rocks sometimes. He needs to help himself there.

I will have much upsetness if Sefo is taking snaps in the 4th quarter next Saturday.

If this is anything like Nicholls last year, I think Sefo gets a half and Montez the rest. No reason for Sefo to play more than that if we're up by 3 or 4 TDs at half, IMO.

After being at the game and being pissed that Sefo stayed in so long and was at risk and then re-watching the game this morning. I think that Sefo needs more reps and time next week. I think he needs at least a half. The team had a good game, but there were several receptions where the WR's saved Sefo. Particularly on crossing routes where Sefo just refused to lead his receivers and often made them stop to catch the ball. Throwing them into coverage when just letting them maintain their stride likely would have made the score all the worse. Guess I am saying I understand why Sefo was left in the game so long...he needs to be better when it comes time to play Michigan and Oregon. Huge risk, but that gamble might be the best way to get the big win this program needs.

ESPN mentioned a couple of times that Sefo hired a personal coach this summer, to work on his throws to his left. Old back injuries are a problem when he throws left. It will be interesting to see whether teams try to stack their defenses and try and force him to throw that direction. Looked like he refused to come out before what turned out to be the last scoring drive - a warrior at war.

Thinking on it some more, if next week's game goes as it should, I'd like to see Montez get a series with the 1s in the first half. That would be good experience for him.

Wouldn't mind it. As long as he's getting good reps and running a normal offense, I'm all for it. He can't just come in to hand off, though.
