Most Difficult Coaching Paths to the Playoff

ESPN snuck this article in last week, I didn't see anyone else pick it up:

MOST DIFFICULT COACHING PATHS TO THE PLAYOFF

4. Colorado
After nine straight losing seasons, the Buffs have faded into irrelevance, and they're competing in a South Division that's on the upswing, led by USC and Arizona. The coaching turnover, subpar recruiting and lack of investment in facilities have made the past decade a disaster.

Gee, if only somebody had said something to the CU admin that bad things would happen if they neglected the football program.

Did it ever occur to you that some of us saw that and decided not to post it? Because were just ****ing tired of bad news? Huh?

It seems there were about 3, lazily written articles last week that all essentially said the same thing about CU football. No admin support, coaching changes, no facilities, losing, blah blah... next

yeah it's too bad we aren't getting new facilities or a stud new defensive coordinator...

I think we're all more upset about the fact that the author is dead-on accurate than we are with anything he actually wrote.

The truth hurts. It would be different if we were in a different division in another conference. But we're not.

Of course it's harder to go from last place to NCAA Playoff contention when you're in the Pac-12 South or SEC West than in any other conference or division. You can do everything right and you're still looking at a number of rivals who are still good enough to beat you even when they're not clicking on all cylinders. Winning "most" conference games doesn't get you into that playoff.

That was Dick Tharp's job ! Too bad he was always off watching his kids play college sports or scoring a Baja tan. He blew off one of his primary tasks as an AD!!!

Is that the one where the writer says that CU is struggling, in part, because we haven't addressed facilities and, oh, by the way, UCLA has plans in place for facility improvements?

Syracuse is weird. Even with us, there's a feeling we'll make it back and be a perennially decent team again. With Syrcause, it's like that program has just completely died even with the occasional recent low-tier bowl seasons.

College football has been completely supplanted by the NFL in New York. Syracuse is a reflection of this.

What football conference are they in this week? Huge problem, no identity.

Syracuse used to be really good. Hell, they beat us in the Fiesta in I wanna '92 or '93? They were good when McNabb was there too. They have definitely fell off the map.

I don't think the conference is the problem. Syracuse is in decent enough position in the ACC and isn't going anywhere. They did **** up not jumping to the ACC 10 years ago. They hesitated and it gave Virginia Tech the window they needed to raise holy hell and work their way in. Syracuse fits in well enough in the ACC. I think the location is the problem like skibum noted. No one in NY + New England giving a **** about football is a problem and the Carrier Dome stopped being a cool place to play football 15 years ago.
