Folks, we need to send our love and support to all the current players on the roster that are staying put and taking up Coach Prime on his challenge to be a new dog on this new day. I am surprised by the lack of transfers, but the chance to play for Coach Prime, to be challenged, to be coached up, and to try and help bring CU back to life is admirable and I hope that every one of them gets a new jolt of confidence and love for the game. We may have some surprises and some guys that grow and break out and we need that for all parts of the roster. I want them to know we love them and want them to give it their all. I am sure that after winter conditioning and spring ball, some may transfer, but right now, everyone is buying into Prime.

To be fair, a lot of them probably just haven't had the "come to Jesus" talk with Prime yet, and they'll hit the portal once they're told to essentially hit the bricks. Might happen before spring ball...will definitely happen after.

I appreciate our players. But they're not getting a "thank you" from me for not quitting. When we get to Fall Camp, though, the guys who are a part of this won't find a more supportive and passionate fan than me.

There are a few players who through the worst of the KD era showed up gave an effort that they could and should be proud of, there were also many (more) who went through the motions and did what they had to do to justify keeping their scholarships.

We have a new day though. I will thank and support those players from last year who show up to off-season work, to spring ball, to summer work-outs, and to fall camp with the effort and attitude that meets or exceeds the expectations of Coach Prime and his staff.

Many players have already shown that they aren't ready to fully be a part of the new culture and will be moving on. Pretty certain that by the end of the spring semester we will see a number more who decide to move on.

Good luck to those who leave and I hope they find a situation that fits their needs and their talents.

I think there's a lot of kids who will need more time to find a home. They can start their 2nd semester and then start to look around.
I believe if they enter the portal, they are giving up their right to the scholarship?

Bottom line, I expect more to enter portal here soon.
I expect others to exit after school starts but before spring ball.
I expect another whole group to exit during/after spring ball, into summer.

Does your employer thank you if you actually show up for work?
Actually successful employers do show thanks to those employees who show up and do quality work even if others and/or the organization are not meeting expectations. Many studies have shown the importance of providing positive feedback when employees deserve it. and constructive criticism aimed at positive outcomes when they don't.

Im not entirely sure but I think “entering the portal” is effectively the same as saying “I’m open for new opportunities” on LinkedIn.

1-11 with 10 losses being boat races isn’t quality work.

And you’re welcome to link those articles.

I thought there was a sense of the players knowing how bad the coaching and their talent was. Philip spiking the ball and dancing, then players lifting him up as if they won the Superbowl, while down 63-14 to Utah showed a lack of character to me. It's fine to be excited for a score, but when you are losing by 50 points and penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct, it was embarrassing for the program.

However a player like Trever Woods showed up as a leader (as a true sophomore) and was one of the two best players on defense. I am rooting for Woods, I loved his game from the first time Wassian put his HS highlights up. As much as I like him, I think he has been recruited over and may be relegated to ST unless there are injuries or it is determined that he should go find a place to get minutes. I think the same of Jordan Tyson, but that's really it, the rest of players spirit was ripped by Kardboard and unfortunately for them, the AC's did not develop them and there seemed to be a sense of entitlement (which Coach Prime nailed in his opening speech to the team).

I'm with Nik. Those who survive Fall Camp, those are the guys who get the love.

No question that the majority of the players weren't performing, scoreboard showed it. In no way saying that those players who put on the uniform but didn't show up deserve to be given positive feedback. There were a few players though who for the most part worked hard and gave it a reasonable effort and cared.

It was hard because these players were on a team that obviously lacked talent and more obviously lacked anything resembling decent coaching.

And there are literally thousands of links out there but to save you looking

If you want to go do an academic level search you will find that this topic is frequently addressed in graduate level papers.

Wow! You guys are brutal! :ROFLMAO:

I’d imagine the places that guys are in runs the gamut. Some will look for other options and some will stick it out. It’s not easy to find another scholarship via a transfer.

I'm glad we have a thread to criticize those who respect players from the previous coach. Good balance to the "slow your roll" thread.

Yep. There’s a lot of dudes on this roster with zero FBS transfer value who will probably give it the college try this spring before throwing in the towel. The ones who make the final fall roster - mad respect.

Bull****. This team was soft and lazy and dramatically underachieved. Poorly coached yes, but you can’t let the guys on the field off of the hook.

I can think of very few players on the 2022 team that I want back and I am tired of people martyring them.

For the most part they were embarrassing.

I agree I wasn't thrilled with the attitude I saw from many of the players. I especially didn't like the "have fun at all costs" attitude that developed under Sanford. You guys went 1-11, try and show SOME pride

Now we know Kelli’s handle here at Allbuffs.

Good one, you got me, kumbaya mother effer

I do want to clarify something related to my post.
I am talking about the players in this very particular moment in time, the "transition to Prime" and not last year's performance.
The coaching changes, the fact that going from MM to MT to KD was not healthy for any college player and they just reverted to being college kids playing football. That Dr. Pepper commercial is perfect, "it's just a bunch of guys playing a game with a ball"

Now, after being subjected to all that, the idea of playing for Prime, the idea of putting maximum effort into being great, is something that I think a lot of these guys want to do, and that is the love I am giving them. For those that determine this is not what they want to do, good for them, go where you can be successful and happy.

I am not a fan of just straight-up calling people terrible. You can criticize a person in the wrong situation, giving a mediocre effort, but it is just plain mean and stupid to call someone pathetic.

Let's get all the right people in the right places and play some great football.

This is the perfect example of the good and the bad from last year.
Trevor Woods plays hard and he will likely fight to stay a starter if he can
Spiking the ball on an OL touchdown being down by that much against freaking Utah was a massive embarrassment for sure

I don't know how many of you played football, or played for a loosing team. I played at Evergreen which was a perennial looser, I think we won maybe 4 or 5 games during my 3 years there. Moved on to Mesa which at the time was down, with a head coach that had essentially retired but didn't give up his job, and I think we won 3 games the 2 years I was there. As a player it sucks. You try and work hard, but when the culture accepts loosing, there is just no way you can work like you would if you were winning. So I can feel for what these guys have been through. However the culture is changing, and unfortunately for them, no matter what their attitude is, or what kind of work ethic they develop, many of them are just not going to fit into what PT has brought to CU. However, that is the nature of sports, and I think anyone who has played understands and accepts that. You are worth what you bring to the team today and tomorrow, not 3 years ago when you were recruited. If any of them do not understand that, I think they must have been coddled too much and need to grow up. So yes, thank them all for coming to CU and being a Buff and good luck in the future. However, the bar is set much higher now, and they shouldn't really expect more than that.
