Naming Rights Sold?

So I was eating lunch today and I happened to look longingly out the window at Folsom, as I frequently do during the offseason. When I glanced at the video screen though, I was shocked to see this:

:wow:

Now, I know that Frontier has been cozying up to the AD a lot in the past few months with basketball but this would really be unprecedented for us. Is this just some sort of advertising thing or promotional thing that Frontier is doing for themselves or have we actually sold the naming rights to Folsom? Has anyone heard anything at all? I just have no idea what to make of this.

I hope so. That's a good partner for us and doesn't sound as doooooshy as some others such as Papa John's Stadium.

Let me check up on this and get back to you guys. This could be good.

Agree with Nik - This name is MUCH better than other options, and if it means more cha-ching for the AD ...

On the other hand, Frontier Airlines has gone down hill since being sold to Republic, so I hope we don't get associated with crappy service...

I agree, Frontier would definitely be a good match for us. It's a (relatively) local company and it's definitely way better than a lot of other options. It would still take me a long time to get used to "Folsom Field at Frontier Stadium" if that's what ends up happening though. I like Folsom Stadium/Frontier Field better but if the price is right and "Folsom" is preserved somewhere, I really don't care. We could really use the money.

I was under the impression Frontier was about to go belly up. OTOH, they are a better sounding sponsor than some other ones I can think of...

Republic bought them out of bankruptcy a year or two ago. had not heard of more recent troubles.

republic has them running strong again and are providing some fairly stiff competition to southwest

that is interesting. they do a lot weird stuff on the vid screens during the day sometimes and at night....tests or probably just goofing off. but, that's pretty suggestive....

Frontier, works for me.....more than Blackjack Pizza or Crocs.

There are a few things about this that make it seem more real to me. At first I thought it was for an event or some sort of promotional thing for Frontier BUT there was no one in the stadium or on the club level. That means that this is purely some sort of test thing for the video board. So I start to get suspicious and think it has to be naming rights and they're testing the board to make an announcement that will coincide with the spring game. I know they're trying to make a big event out of it with the alumni game and all that. What's bigger than announcing a huge naming rights deal? Also, they're working the board during spring break. No students around to see the tests and blab about it. I really want to think it's real and it definitely doesn't NOT make sense. I guess we'll see though...

Folsom Field at Frontier Airlines Stadium?

Not too bad.

To paraphrase Winston Zeddemore, "If there's a lot of money in it, they can call it whatever they want."

:wtf:

This better just be a negotiating tactic to get Allbuffs to up our offer for naming rights. I'm pretty our lawyers locked up an exclusive negotiating window for us.

Right???

I was kind of hoping The Walrus (the bar, not me--I've got no cash...) would come through. It could be a lot worse than "Frontier" however, if that's in fact the direction it's going.

Wait until the Bear and Rabbit dialogue has played over the jumbotron a couple of hundred times...naming rights are a whole different animal.

Negotiations hit a snag when Bohn played hardball and demanded that we offer above 3 figures and a coupon for a free burrito.

I thought we were countering with $100, a 12-Pack, a complete set of Allbuffs apparel for Bohn and a pan of Sacky's breakfast burritos....

You can't tell me that wasn't good enough.... :pissed:

Here's an upside look at naming rights:

Big college sports programs are increasingly following their professional brethren, raising significant sums by selling the corporate naming rights to athletic facilities for specific terms.

The largest of these collegiate deals was signed in 2005, when TCF Bank of Minneapolis agreed to pay $35 million for the title rights of the University of Minnesota's new football stadium.

The Gophers' $288.5 million, 50,000-seat facility is set to open in 2009. The naming rights last 25 years.

During the past five years, the University of Maryland signed a pair of big corporate naming-rights deals for both its stadium and arena. The combined price was $45 million.

All this talk about allbuffs buying the naming rights to the stadium is crazy. Once we can afford more than four season tickets, then maybe we can talk about naming rights. Until then, stop with the crazy talk.

We would get 4 season tickets included with the naming rights...

Maybe we could get naming rights on our seats! Allbuffs Seats in Folsom Field at Frontier Stadium. When you sit there, Club Members get to stop by and discuss the Off Topic thread of their choice.

I don't know it might be worth another try...somebody paid $780K for slanted letters and a new "brand". Maybe they would give up the naming rights for a bottle of vodka, a year's club membership for three AD employees and a blind date arranged by Rugged.

All that stuff is easily obtained except for the bottle of vodka. That's on a bus somewhere.

Learfield Sports is negotiating on our behalf. Big number on the table (favorably compares to precedent deals) but nothing finalized. That's what SD just reported on the Rivals board.

any talk of the practice facility/ university hotel being part of the package? That was the rumor back in the day when a hotel conglomerate was involved. Of course, we don't care about the hotel all that much.

My sister works at Frontier. I've e-mailed her to see if she's heard anything she's willing to share. Stay tuned.
