NCAA allows unlimited texts

Kind of lost in the news about banning satellite camps is that the NCAA is now allowing unlimited texting to recruits.

Before, it was social media that was unlimited. HS Coaches and recruits didn't mind that because they could block someone they didn't want to hear from and Direct Messaging was only possible on twitter if the target followed a coach back. But texts? That blows up data plans and could have the phone buzzing all day long.

I agree with Urban Meyer. This is an absolutely moronic decision.

The NCAA is digging its own grave. The rise of the P5 and the separation it's causing between the haves and the have nots is leading to a system where the NCAA loses its relevancy. Governing boards of the major conferences will have more control than the NCAA. The NCAA will exist as a governing body for the small schools only.

Maybe that's not the worst thing in the world.

This'll be really great for student-athletes trying to deal with school, sports, etc. As if they need more crap to deal with.

Can you imagine how many texts per day these recruits will get?

They already get boxes full of 100+ hand written letters from some schools, now they'll get 100+ text messages from a bunch of different schools...

**** the NCAA.
I keep say that at some point the players are going to revolt.
If the players organized at all and saw how much power the Mizzu football team had by threatening to not play, they could start shoving these kinda decision back up the NCAAs ass.

How soon before a star point guard misses a game due to strained thumbs?

Agree that it is dumb but how do you regulate it?

Whole system needs to be revamped, burn it to the ground and start over again.

No matter what you do the have are going to have the advantage. They are more readily noticed by kids to start with then have the money to follow up with.

If you limit recruiting to direct mail the haves can print in gold leaf and 3D.

The NCAA has no real investigation or enforcement powers. They only catch someone if they either self-report or get somebody mad enough that they get turned in, and then it's hard for them to follow up.

One change that does have to happen though is that penalties have to follow the coach who was in charge when they happened. To many coaches happy to cheat, win, and move on to the next higher paying job leaving the former school with sanctions. Guys like Jackie Sherrill and Lou Holtz built careers on it.

NCAA can't stop the rich programs from being rich. They can and are supposed to protect the players though. That should be their number 1 job. But it ain't. With this ruling they are not concerned about the players being bombarded by schools.
At least with direct mail the player doesn't have to use their data plan or be interrupted during class. They have some control.

Im a code up a bot of 'chevisms' and 'leavittisms' that can auto spam recruits on a weekly daily hourly minutey basis. Then after its highly touted success tom Im gonna sell it for $59,999 for each univ user license (except CUbldr).
