NCAA investigation: things look bad for Ole Miss

The NCAA is a toothless heelhound where any revenue generating team is concerned. I doubt anything significant happens to Ole Miss. Maybe they will have to "forfeit" past wins, and have to wait a year or two to have those wins "restored".

"The violations are for:
  • Providing lodging and transportation to Ole Miss Football recruits worth $2,200, and meals worth $235
  • Providing false information knowingly about recruiting violations when asked by the NCAA and Ole Miss Football
  • Boosters contacting one athlete committed to another NCAA football program, and allowed a cash payment(s) to that athlete worth $13-15,000
  • Distributing athletic gear, courtesy of a company owned by an Ole Miss booster, to recruits"

Given PSU and Baylor, I find I don't really care if money changed hands. I am simply immune to the whole thing. Perhaps I should care more, but I haven't felt college sports were truly amateur for quite sometime.

Granted if something more salacious comes out, I will change my mind.

This is bull****. Ole Miss needs to be disciplined, sure - but why the **** isn't UNCCH disciplined yet??!! A "free" degree is the only justification that makes any sense for the athletes not getting paid, and when the degree is completely overlooked as is the case at UNC, severe punishment should be doled out. Yet, Ole Miss is as close to as can be to getting the death penalty for something that is obviously going on many places? I ****ing hate the NCAA and **** like all of these things makes me hate college sports.......

This is cute, Derek, but you're not fooling anyone... The responses to this Tweet are pretty good, too

What he meant to say is that by SEC rules nobody is cheating because they all violate the rules so it is fair.

Fraudulent test scores, booster payments to players, etc. This is real bad.

Ole Miss may be cheating, but did their coaches not report a complicated domestic abuse case to their administration fast enough?

As we all know that's the real damnable crime in CFB

Every so often, an $ec program (not named bama) gets in trouble. They miss a bowl and lose a few schollies.

A few years later, another $ec program (not named bama) gets in trouble. No bowl. Fewer schollies.

Rinse. Spit. Repeat (not named bama).

bama has a long history of cheating and scandals, but not much at all since saban got there. he's lead a transformation of the entire university-- they are academically better than they used to be, more geographically and culturally diverse (even yankees go there now), and they have top notch facilities. and, of course, because saban wins and wins, they get players in. they do not have to cheat anymore, so they don't cheat. i excuse the little rules-bending that every top program engages in, of course.

ol' miss and the rest of the sec is chasing bama. and when you see a program suddenly do what ol' miss did in the sec, then you know they are cheating big-time.

florida and georgia are what i would call "in the bell curve for major programs" cheaters. vandy isn't trying to be a major program so they are in their own category.

the rest of the sec are cheating dogs, imho, willing to do nearly anything to win.

You do not know your SEC/Bama/NCAA sanctions history....

And the last time bammer got hammered?

$ec and the No Credibility At All group ain't messin' with parole tide. That cash cow is gonna keep on grazin'.

And a very good point - some are better at it than others.

At this point, does Alabama even need to come close to bending the rules, to remain the juggernaut they are, or do they pretty much have all the money they need and get any recruit they want? If I'm Saban, I'm making sure everything is being run as cleanly as possible.

Bama can do whatever they want....the NCAA lapdogs are too busy finding a Slippery Rock athlete getting a free haircut, or some walkon getting a free meal at the training table.
