NCAA Tournament Boycott - Who is with me?

I love the NCAA tournament. For three long weekends, there is no match for the drama and intensity of these sporting events. Every year, I look forward to the tournament as a symbol of the end of winter. I usually participate in a number of bracket pools. In the past, I was often the person running these pools.

Not this year. I intend to ignore the entire tournament from start to finish. No pools, no streaming games while at work, no going to sports bars to watch multiple games at the same time. Who knows, maybe I will extend my boycott to the companies that are the major sponsors of the tourney.

Now, I realize that this is absolutely ridiculous. Even if I get everyone I know to join my boycott (which will not happen - I have too many friends that went to other schools who are not as chafed about yesterday), I know that it will not make one iota of difference to the NCAA or CBS or anyone involved.

But it will make me feel better. I'm gonna play some golf. Going to a few spring training games in Arizona later this week. Maybe I will finally get the bathroom that I have been working on done over the next few weeks. Hey, I have time to get my taxes done!

I'll still watch. Life goes on. We all learned a lesson on the selection process and hopefully Bohn and Boyle learned how important the "game" of scheduling is. It doesn't really matter what you do on the court, it matter how you schedule. We need to finish with a top 100 rpi OOC schedule next season. We need to schedule the top teams to play on the road because it doesn't matter if we lose there and then find some great 200 to 300 rpi teams to beat at home.
 
I wont watch a game. I plan on keeping track since my Dad is a 'Nole. But other than seeing who the winner is at the end I will not be paying attention to this tournament.

why is our approach to basketball scheduling very different than our approach for football scheduling?

That is a good question for our athletic department to evaluate....

Football requires national television network dollars to remain viable.

Basketball does not.
 
I couldn't not watch the tournament but I'm definitely feeling a lot less enthusiastic about it this year.
 
Not watching and not filling out a bracket....yesterday was too painful to bear and I'd rather spend my time doing something worthwhile with my time as the weather gets nice in this beautiful state

I like baseball too, but I'm not tuning in to watch every spring training game. The NIT is basically a pre-season for next year. It means absolutely nothing. A 2011 NIT banner hanging in Coors is more embarassing than no banner at all.
 
Are you kidding me?

Thursday (03.17.2011) and Friday (03.18.2011) are the two greatest sports days of the entire year. Will definitely watch.
 
If you feel obliged to boycott the tournament then have at it. You're obviously not much of a college basketball fan if that's what you're gonna do.

Huge college BBall fan....but even greater Buff fan and that **** yesterday literally ripped my heart & soul out and just don't want to be reminded about it

Also partially disagree, OOC road games, I agree find some really good teams where we are in a nothing to lose situation ie. a loss wont hurt us (not USF), but we need to find some <200 RPI teams to play at home, or at least right around that 200 mark. These are still for the most part guaranteed wins, but for RPI they look a lot better.
 
The reason I dont want to watch is cuz I am pretty sure the first two days as the lower seeds get destroyed the commentators will begin discussing who they beat to get in the tournament. They will undoubtedly discuss how CU deserved to be, How the game they are watching could have been much better... It just isn't worth watching plus I will be fully supporting the buffs in the NIT and tracking their progress instead.

Please do not judge me on my level of fandom. You have no idea how much of a fan I am.

Call it judging if you want but the bottom line is that you simply can't be that big of a college hoops fan if you're going to boycott the tournament because of this. Not a criticism, just an analysis. We're all pissed about this, myself included, but the tournament is still a great sports event.
 
I don't know. I'm really not sure if I'm going to pay attention to the games, or follow them.

I generally love this time of year. It is, for the most part, incredibly fun. The Cinderella stories, the upsets, the close games. I usually look forward to that first Thursday. This year? I just don't know.

I'll be following the Buffs progress through the nit, tho. Really hope that Cory and the seniors get these guys jacked up to make some noise (and I think he/they will).

I could say something along the lines of you simply not being that big a CU fan, but that would just make me an asshole, wouldn't it? I try not to judge the decisions people make with regards to things like this. The high horse you ride when it comes to college basketball is really annoying.

You can call me whatever kind of CU fan you want, I don't care and it wouldn't make you an asshole. I'm not out to prove my CU or other sports fandom to anyone. I used to think I was a pretty big-time CU fan until I joined this board and now I realize there's helluva lot more loyal and enthusiastic fans out there than me.

I guess if stating my opinion about watching the tournament is translated into judging you, then go ahead and say I judged you. I guess I judged alot of other people then too and am not supposed to have an opinion on the subject.
 
I fully admit I'm not much of a fan of the game of basketball. What happened to CU yesterday is inexcusable, though. I would have watched CU in the tournament, but now I have no compelling reason to pay attention.
 
I love the NCAA tournament. I look forward to it every year as a Top 3 sporting event. What should have been even better than usual with a CU bid became something that's pissing me off. I'm not sure how into it I'll be. And that's really weird for me. Normally, I'd treat the next 2 Thursdays and Fridays as if they were holidays.

What's wrong with wanting to boycott a championship tournament that obviously has no interest in ensuring the best teams nationally have a crack at it? Especially when one of the teams hurt most by the process is yours? I don't see how that makes you less of a fan of college ball in general.

if KSU makes a run it will be just depressing

Me too. I typically take Thursday and Friday of this week off if possible, and I don't make plans for this time of year in case they end up in conflict with NCAA games. It is a big deal to me.

Oddly enough, I had the opportunity to take a trip to Scottsdale this week to watch some spring training and play golf (not on my own dime), and I was really worried about finding places to watch the tourney. Now, I am going to just try and see a lot more baseball and play a lot more golf.
 
Still the greatest postseason of all the sports.

Channel your hatred to cheering on the buffs in the NIT and pack the Keg.
