Or, maybe not.
Mike DeArmond, who covers Missouri for the Kansas City Star, wrote on his blog that he voted Missouri No. 1, and called the Big 12 office for an explanation.
"Thanks Mike. Sorry about the poll. All I can guess is it was either misplaced once I printed it off or intern who assisted me accidentally miscalculated points. I'll make sure your votes are counted for preseason team," the league responded.
The selection probably doesn't warrant a manhunt like we saw last season at SEC media days when a coach left Tim Tebow off his ballot at quarterback, but it's still a curious selection, choosing the Tigers, who may enter the season unranked or barely inside the Top 25, over the Huskers, who should be hovering near the top 10 when the season kicks off in September.Missouri also must travel to Lincoln to play the biggest game on the Big 12 North schedule.
"I didn't pick the Cornhuskers, although given that Missouri plays at Nebraska I probably should have and probably would now," DeArmond wrote.
Here's what DeArmond's ballot looked like:Big 12 North
1. Missouri
2. Nebraska
3. Colorado
4. Iowa State
5. Kansas State
6. Kansas
Big 12 South
1. Oklahoma
2. Texas
3. Texas A&M
4. Baylor
5. Oklahoma State
6. Texas Tech
His All-Big 12 team ballot is also available on his blog.
