Nembot Redshirt?

What a physical specimen! Talent and potential but really lacking in technique and an understanding of the game. He might get way better playing this year but I think a red shirt is the best route for him. He seems to be learning quickly. Your take? I'd think it would be great to save him a year.

I believe that unless the kid is going to play a significant amount of time, it's best to take a red shirt year to develop completely physically and have that extra year of high level coaching.

True, but Embree wants to get his best players experienced and ready to help CU climb out of the cellar next year and the year after. We got seniors that can help us win now, but most of us on here don't see us going bowling. The future of this team will see the field a lot this year. Just my opinion, but one I've formed by watching position battles that seem to favor youth over knowledge.

Redshirt him....If he played another position that wasn't so stacked already I'd say you got to play him, but with a DL that is already the most deep and skilled position on our team it would be foolish to burn his redshirt now....ESPECIALLY if they're also going to burn Juda's

Isn't the 2012 recruiting class going to be really big numbers wise? I am not sure they want to redshirt him and make next year's class even larger.

If he can work into the 2-deep, I bet he plays.

I'm betting that a good majority of next years class takes a red-shirt, so he really won't affect their numbers.

How does redshirting a guy affect class size? It doesn't free up a scholarship...

I'm going to go out on a limb on this one and add another wrinkle:

Nembot will move on to the NFL after 4 years.
He will have a more productive time here as a Buff by learning on the field this year.

Don't get me wrong, would rather he redshirt, but I get the feeling he's not and it has little to do whether he's in the 2 deep come Hawaii. Embree thinks he will be in the two deep come midseason.

For example:

2011 class will be seniors in 2014, unless they redshirt. If a 2011 player redshirts, they would be a senior in 2015.

So if 10 players from the 2011 class redshirt - that adds 10 players to the 2015 senior class.

I think several redshirts will be burned. If we can get experience at key positions (WR, DL, maybe OL) then next season looks better.

Okay, but your post referred to the next year (2013). His redshirt doesn't affect that. Maybe you meant a future year.

If he can pick up technique, then hell yes he plays this year. In the scrimmage, I saw slavin try and block him and he just CRUSHED him. I bet he's a regular in the rotation starting mid-season. We will need to rotate in a ton of guys this year. It will be a long campaign.

It certainly could affect a future year. We don't want to get into a situation where we have 35 seniors leaving the program, and we can only sign 25 players in the next recruiting class.

Play him if he'll contribute. Redshirt him if he won't. With the number of seniors on the DL, it might make sense to try to get him some PT to get him used to game speed this year.

He's probably too valuable in subsequent years to redshirt him, so it's likely this year to redshirt or never (barring injury). If he can make a difference this year, play him. But don't get into a Nick Kasa situation... /shudder

Nembot is still learning the game, and the Buffs have six - six! - senior defensive linemen. As much as I would like to see the Buffs have a winning record this season, it's hard to imagine that Nembot would see enough playing time to justify burning his red-shirt

If the question were re-phrased: "Would you rather seen Nembot in for 65 plays as a freshman, and be done in 2014, or would you rather have Nembot sit out this fall, and in 2015 play as a sculpted, dominant, All-Pac-12 defensive lineman in 2015?", I think I would opt for preparing this raw talent for the future, and have him learn the game this fall.

I just want to see wins. And if that means sitting seniors to play freshmen because the freshmen are better, or if it means redshirting guys, or if it means sacrificing a live chicken, I don't care. Just. ****ing. Win.

According to the DC, Nembot will not redshirt, but will play alot of ST:

Stephane Nembot, a freshman the coaching staff is really high on, is listed as fourth-string but expected to play on special teams instead of redshirt.

I bet he works his way into the rotation as the season goes on. Need as deep a DL as possible.

Mutha****ing this!

How will they use him on special teams? A good question to ask Joel & CJ on 102.3 today.
