I posted this over on Rivals as well.

So...I can't tell if this is a positive or negative article. There will likely be a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth over this one. The good news is DiStephano apparently rolled master facilities plan for the Folsom renovation / new practice facility.

The bad news is the plan has lots of "options" based on if and when the school can raise X amount of money, and DiStephano did enough hedging to build a garden maze. He certainly didn't sound like someone very confident on when or if the "plan" is moving forward. I get being prudent, but I really wish our leadership was more proactive on this issue. Hell, if nothing else he missed an opportunity to say in press that we're committed to athletics, both being competitive and winning championships, and if we want that to happen we need our donors to step up. Instead he just emphasizes that IF it happens it'll be private money and we're going to give it the 'ol college try...maybe. Also sounded like he was back pedaling a bit on the September announcement actually happening.

He's polliticking. He doesn't want to promise anything that might not happen or makes promises based on funding that might not show up *cough cough* He always talks like this. When the plans for the basketball practice facility came out Phil sounded the same way. He's just cautious about what would be the most expensive athletics project the school has ever seen. The money will come though, I know CU donors are looking up at CSU and thinking they can't be outplayed by a bunch of sheep (even though doing nothing would still give us a better stadium by far).

Yeah, the last decade has conditioned me to be pretty jaded on anything going right for the Buffs, so I may just be reading too much into it and being too pessimistic.

DiStefano is showing a lack of leadership in this.

He's weak.

Even if DiStefano is just playing politics, I figure he would be a little more polished with it by now. That interview reads as awkward more than anything.

WWGGD?

(Gordon Gee)

Phil should wear a laniard with those letters.

Phil should shut the hell up whenever the subject of athletics is brought up. He should keep his damn trap shut.

The Gordon Gee love is a little unwarranted in the present, is it not?

Gee is a lucky man to have Penn State providing cover in the wake of Sweater Vest's tattoo and merchandise scandal.

Let's review a list CU's recent presidents..
Benson
Brown
Hoffman
Albino
Gee

Yeah, Gee looks like the most footall friendly on that list.

Let's try to keep it in the present though. His handling of the Ohio State saga was embarrassing to say the least. Try to be somewhat consistent, Skiddy.

Perhaps you'd prefer I'd invoke Bill Powers or Kenneth Starr or John Henessy or Michael Gottfredson?

You are turning into quite the DiStephano apologist in this thread, Duff Man. Thanks for the reality check.

Let's aim higher than DiStefano or the modern-day Gordon Gee. Neither are particularly effective leaders in the present and we need better to move CU forward.

I remain grateful to Gordon Gee for being the wind beneath Bill McCartney's incredible run. You can't take that away.

But, yes. No point living in the past.

Back on point. Bruce Benson and Phil DiStephano are getting up there in age. How much more gas do they have in the tank?
When might we have a changing of the guard?

last i heard benson was getting ready to step aside and they were already searching for a replacement...

This is nothing new, and I remember back in the late sevenites when CU had one barbell for strength and conditioning. Hard to believe, but true.

DiStefano is and will always be very weak. I know he was the faculty liaison back in the day but he has proven to be no friend or advocate for athletics. I cannot wait for he and the master politician Benson to leave CU.

One thing the article mentioned that no one brought up is the plan for a concourse to wrap all the way around the North end. How exactly would that work? Sounds awesome (assuming)

From the outside looking in, it seems Mr. DiStefano is doing a great disservice to the CU community. Why kill the momentum? If one is unsure of the changes and timetables for such change to take place it's better to stay quiet than to provide such quotes.

Phil is the master of saying exactly the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time.

Only way I can see that is if they built a concourse level with the video board in the north end zone to match where the break is on the east side expansion between levels. Another option would be to have the concourse pass through Dal Ward, either through it of around it, and then stairs or ramps to connect to the east side. Otherwise there would need to be some serious overhauling of the existing stadium

It appears that way. Regardless, I think if things do get agreed upon, financed and moving, nothing will start until January-February of 2013 (at a minimum). With perfect weather, demo and construction (such as mentioned here and elsewhere) takes a minimum of 1.5 to 2 years to complete. If the most grandiose timetables and plans are realized, where does CU play its home games in 2013? Or will seating and paths through the stadium remain unchanged during construction?

What? 2 years? Our buddy OMFGasm tells us that an entire stadium can be built in 2 years!

They will keep the stadium open during construction I suspect. No games were moved when they added luxury boxes to the east side I don't believe.

OMFGasm is a succubus who attempts to incite you all and bind you to the past while offering free BJs. Without CU, CSU is irrelevant. Without CSU, CU is still in the PAC on an upward trajectory. Glad to hear that games won't be moved if construction commences...
