New Facilities

Does the new basketball practice facility count or by facilities do you only mean football? I know the golf team is working on funding for indoor facilities.

Well we know the $$$ is on the way. Take out a loan, draw up the plans, get out a shovel, and build some sh1t.

I said after we pay off debts of course but a football facility is a must if we want to be at the top in recruiting. And people who say it doesn't matter, it does.

Bohn has said that improved football facilities are next on the list. The basketball facility is already paying dividends. It's probably one of the best, if not the best practice facility in the league. It's certainly the newest. Let everybody else build their football facility and we'll build one that's just a bit better once they're done.

We need to expand training facilities. I think we're actually in a Title IX predicament with that.

One of the reasons I'd love an indoor facility is that it benefits football while also solving some of those issue. Could really position us to become a lot better in our T&F programs, too, if the facility could be used over the winter for indoor track events.

With all the excitement about the media contract....still would be that much more beneficial if we could get some donors or that rumor of 50 donors/$50 million to begin making improvements and such immediately....otherwise we won't be able to move forward and reap the benefits of the media windfalls for at least a couple of years

eggzactly. i see it going down something like this....

"coach, Cal is recruiting me too and they have a self service ice cream cone station at Cal."

"yeah, but they have a limiter on it. cone can only be so big. we are getting one at CU too but, with no limiter so you can make a gargantuan cone that will make a mockery of their self service ice cream station."

"where do i sign, coach?"

pretty simple.

meant football... to be honest, i'm very excited about the basketball opportunities. We do need to start drawing up some plans though. Even if we don't plan on doing anything for a couple years, have that caveat out there so people know football isn't being left behind.

In another thread, I did say that softball would be the cheapest facility to build when you consider all the new sports we want at about $3-5 million. I believe the naming rights at Folsom Field deal will take care of that.

What about Title IX though?

I don't understand why the football facility eventually built automatically has to be the very best possible.

Since the cheerleading squad performs at Folsom, I think we should argue that any improvements made there satisfies Title IX since the ladies use it too.

I'm joking of course, but how are shared facilities treated under Title IX? Let's say CU started a women's filed hockey team that played at Folsom - could we make improvement to the Flatirons Club without going afoul of Title IX?

Why wouldn't you strive to be ahead of the curve?

There is a point where the ROI is pretty small. All I am saying is I do not think we need to have the biggest baddest practice facility just to say we have the biggest baddest practice facility. If it is well in line with other top conference programs, we will be fine.

I'd agree about the ROI but if we build a top of the line facility, we'll be at the top of the Pac 12 in that area. I don't know though, I like to have the best of the best.

This is unequivocally true. Cal had the WORST facilities of any BCS school by far, and it impacted recruiting. When they first announced the huge new training center that was going to be built, recruiting went on an uptick (started to get 4 and 5 star guys like Desean Jackson) and then when the moron hippy tree people screwed it all up, recruiting fell off. Now that it's almost built (and the stadium is undergoing huge renovation) recruiting is WAY up (top 15 classes the last 2 years in a row). Obviously there are other factors (Tosh Lupoi, etc) but these facilities are a HUGE deal for us.

Agreed and coming from a 18 year old (me), it's awesome to see a great big top of the line facility and shows dedication to football, but as I said, I like to have the best of the best.

I don't think it's likely that anyone in the PAC, or maybe the entire country, can compete with Oregon in this regard. The amount of money Phil Knight has poured in (and the way they let him do it -- they lease the land to him for the duration of construction, he builds whatever he wants, and then gifts it back to the University)

That said, being in the same league (and not being the worst) is worth a huge amount.

I can tell you that when Cal planned the huge new training center that's almost done (Student Athlete High Performance Center) they made sure that part of it was for football, and then another, not insignificant part was for women's sports (and other sports in general).

I was walking through dal ward the other day and snapped this pic. I mean, sure it could use a coat of paint maybe but lets not go overboard.
