Do we have anyone on our roster now or that we are recruiting for 2012 or 2013 that has the talent, assuming the team is good enough around him, to actually win the Heisman?

If it takes us until like 2017 or so to start bringing in top 20 classes (and thus to have a legitimate Heisman contender around 2020) then we are in deep ****. I'm looking to have a top 20 class by 2013 or '14. If we land a few of the blue chippers that we're currently in the running for then this class will be in the 30s this year..

I'm sorry but I don't remember anyone saying RG3 was going to be a Heisman candidate a year before he stepped on the Baylor campus

Not sure how you can answer this question

I think you are missing the point. I am not suggesting we could easily pick a specific player now or in the future who could win. I am suggesting that Heisman winners come from teams generally that are building something special, that win a majority of their games, have a very strong supporting cast and have a head coach and assistants capable of developing players to the best they can be. Whether or not the Buffs have a shot at developing a Heisman candidate can be assessed in part by judging all of those things about our program.

Could you have imagined luck or rg3 on this years team?

We wouldn't have lost the wazzou game or Cal game to start. Outside of our secondary, I think we would have had a shot against some other competition. If we had won 7 games with those guys would we have secured a finalist? Perhaps, but doubtful. In 2 years IF we get a magical player I could see that happening.

If P-Rich plays to his capability game in and game out, the guy could win the Heisman. You look at his UH/Cal efforts. Multiple TD game. If he could stay healthy and consistent, he'd have a chance.

Or the honey badger. Mathieu was a 3 star with LSU being his only BCS offer. His other offers where from Florida International, Miami, OH, SMU, Southern Miss, Tulane and Louisiana-Monroe.

You just can never tell until they are starting to shine at the college level.

Regarding your signature, Unleash. I'm on board. I have failed to get better at anything in a long, long time.

Agreed. Darrelle revis was a 3 star recruit out of Alquippa and now he's the best corner in the NFL.

Better question is whether we have a staff that can develop players. I question some of the gameday coaching but it seems we do have coaches on the staff that have developed NFL talent.

This was part of the point of asking the question. I wasn't asking anyone to name a player but to think about if we will have a program capable of having a Heisman nomination in the next decade or two. That requires a lot of things to come together including player development. I for one think we do have what it takes but on the poll (no-not the stripper pole) I voted for a nominee by 2020.

Wow UtterBuff..I am a fan of Donta but not sure I am prepared to predict a Heisman for him.

Have I described by cat's breath yet? Uncanny resemblance to catfood, in scent.

I think wally hates poles. They let their damn kids jump on his couch.

It's an entire culture of "non-parenting" as far as I can tell.

Good to see this thread picking up a bit.
