No more domes for NCAA Regionals

The NCAA doesn't want to go to domes for regionals anymore.

Now if they could just do the same for Final Fours.

The NCAA has made one decision on domes -- it is done with them in regional finals. Mark Lewis, the NCAA's vice president in charge of championships, said using domes for regionals was a trial run for future Final Fours. But the upcoming Final Four sites have already had the dry run, so the NCAA doesn't need to do this anymore. Lewis said regional finals should be in arenas, and that will be the plan going forward.

I completely agree. Arenas have a much better basketball atmosphere.

Half way there. Just like Carolina said, get rid of them for Final Fours and all will be well.

Wasn't McNichols the last arena to host a final four?

Would love it, but it'll never happen. They'll lose WAY too much money for that. Plus, if they did a FF in an arena, there wouldn't be any space for the actual fans of the teams.

Thank goodness. Now the 27% shooting in sterile atmosphere can be limited to the Final Four.

I hate games played in domes for that exact reason.

Most talking heads try to pass it off on nerves, but it's a big change in depth perception.

Anyone who's ever gone from a high school gym to a large arena knows the difference it can make.

Counter-argument, the demand would be higher in an actual arena since there's a quarter of the seats available. I guess there's so many people who will pay a lot to "get in."

i've heard from people close to a couple programs (i know, i know...) that the shooting backdrop in the domes is horrible. whole different game than you play all year. players come off the floor from the first shoot around eyes as big as WTF saucers. everyone knows it but the open cash-in at the expense how the game has been played all year.....seems crass to me.

but, i guess Norman Dale measured the basket and the FT line so take that Mick Ronson.

problem is there are so many corporate/sponsor/ncaa crony tix already accounted for....smaller gyms hurt the real fans of the schools playing. however, the final game is a pretty easy ticket....you just buy tix on the street from the fans of the losing team in the round of 4.

there was a great, but utterly never ever going to happen article somewhere online about playing NCAA games in the old, classic gyms. palestra, bradley's gym maybe, kansas city arena....others i can't think of.....i wouldn't even know how to google for it.

only a nostalgia piece, but it would be a helluva good time to be attending.

The real problem with domes IMO is you are limiting yourself now to like 8 football stadiums that can seat 70k. You've eliminated anything west of Phoenix or north of Atlanta. You are taking out a lot of major markets just because they don't have domes.

My Uncle and Cousin went in 2002 when Maryland was in it, I believe my uncle just went to the Championship Game while my cousin went to both. They said this -- it was easy to get tix for the Champ game.
