No more Hawkinses for Tyler Hansen- ESPN Blog

Tyler has been an absolutely outstanding teamate and person during his whole ordeal in Boulder. I'm really rooting for him to have a great senior season...and not just because it means we will win more games.

Same. I would absolutely love for Tyler to move ahead of Cody in some of the stats categories this season. That kind of QB play behind a 1500-2000 yard rusher in Speedy would be an amazing last season for those two

Big props to Tyler for handling the situation well and not throwing people under the bus while they were still here. Many of us felt all along that Tyler was the better QB all yet year in and year out it was always a neck and neck competition from Hawk Sr. Not very many coaches will take out your starter and put in the back up to run a hurry up offense, my whole entire life time of watching college and professional footbal i've only seen it done twice, hawkins doing it once and Shanny, but I think Shanny did it because he was sending Mcnabb a message.

We all know what the situation was with the previous coach and his son, and by their own admission, it wasn't the best idea for either of them. For TH, the focus is no longer on being better than the coach's kid, it's about stepping up his level of play to turn things around for this team, this season. Truth is, he, like everybody else, is going to have to be much better for us to have a successful season.

You just have to wonder how much better Tyler would be at this point had he had the opportunity for a true redshirt season then an opportunity to have the job that he rightly won without having to look over his shoulder and getting the reps and the coaching that should come with being the true #1.

He may not be a great QB but it is reasonable to think that he would be a better QB with two years of eligibility left.

It was a no win deal. Its not like if John Elway's dad had been HC at Stanford. Tyler and Cody, talent wise, were/are pretty close. You guys make it sound like Tyler was head and shoulders better than Cody and that just was not the case. It was just a bad situation. I know I'm going to get ripped for saying this, but I'm just trying to be realistic.

What is apparent is that Dan Hawkins was not the coach we thought we were getting when he was hired. He dissapointed a ton of people.

We'll never know because the whole situation was botched with burning redshirts, splitting reps, rotating the QBs, etc. Not arguing that Hansen has shown himself to be a star, but he has not had the same chances to this point that Cody had.

Totally agree with you. It was just a bad situation all the way around. Cody and his dad would have been WAY better off if Cody had just gone to Boise St. Oh well, that era, thankfully, is over.

It's going to take the better part of 3+ years for all of *awkins recruiting classes to graduate and put these types of debuts to rest. I know Hanson handled himself well in the interview and with *awkins gone Tyler could have an outstanding year knowing that *awkins is no longer the coach and Cody won't be coming in to try to provide a spark. I'm sure it's a huge weight off of his shoulders.

Hawk lover.

Seriously, IMO TH is and was noticeably better than CH. Statistically, TH had a better completion percentage, a higher YPA, a better TD to pick ratio and could actually run. Plus every fourth pass he threw didn't get swatted back in his face. Anybody watching the two could see who the player was. Is TH a world beater? No. Is he an all B12 or P12 player? Probably not. But he sure as hell was/is better than the worldwide leader in passes batted down. How many times did we see someone running backwards, to his right and throwing a wobbler off his back foot? In middle school FB I heard the coaches tearing the QB a new one for throwing of his back foot, but the "coach on the field" did all the time with nary a word. I won't even go into the 30 yard retreat for a safety at KU..../rant.
