Like a lot of people, I don't have time to read all 8 or 10 forums on AllBuffs. Some I have never looked at. The football and basketfall threads do it for me most days.

I posted a link to a Brooks article (just below) and replies to the thread were stopped, becuase the same link is on the 'news' forum. At the same time, 250 people have viewed the link I posted - so, you might guess, that is 250 people who also don't have the time to check 8 forums. My point being, maybe you have too many forums, or, maybe, you should stop cutting off responses, just because something is posted elsewhere.

Like you I don't have time to consider every thread on this board. I usually click on "new posts" and sort through what intrigues the most based on the time I have. It is also a useful tool for a quick look see if someone else has already started a thread on a subject I might be interested in starting something on

In defense of the godlike entities that started and maintain the excellence that is Allbuffs it is probably a good idea to check carefully to see if a thread has already been started on a subject before doing one yourself. It would cut down on the dupes which are in and of themselves time consumers on this board.

I don't always go to all the forums, but if I find a article that I want to post a link to, I do check the news forum, because that is where it would most likely be posted. If something happend that I find interesting that is not CU sports related, I will try to look briefly through the Pub to see if someone is already tlaking about it. Often not only is it being talked about, but in reading through the thread someone already may have posted the point I wanted to make, or what I found interesting. Which certainly saves time from have 10 threads on the same thing. I understand what you are saying, but in most cases, they will simply merge threads into the proper area so that topic is covered in one combined thread. Which actually will save you time. The dupes is what takes up needless time when perusing the board.
 
You should try reading with Whats New tab you get to sift through 8 different threads of the same article. Thanks rssbot!
 
Probably like a lot of others, I saw 96's response and vectored over there, where there are comments. So, you pointed this out to people, there just aren't other responses in the thread you started. And they didn't delete your thread, so no big deal, yes?

This. It fascinates me that people don't go look to see if there's already a thread out there about a subject before starting a new one.

I am sure you know this but for others who are new to the board, if you login to a forum and click on the "forum tools" link in the upper right you can mark the whole forum read and take those threads out of your "whats new" feed, this is how i keep the politics board from driving me insane.

:nod: I find that useful for the fantasy sports forum, and sometimes for the newsroom.

As for the original post, I would think that for people who don't have time to read everything here, having it broken down into forums by subject would actually make it easier to find just the stuff you care about. If all the bull **** that gets posted here was dumped into one forum, I would feel sorry for anybody trying to pick through and find just the stuff they care about.
 
however, in defense of the op....

its not like its the first time that an article that is in the news forum has been reposted in the bb/football forums. many times over the history of the board, those articles have led to some good discussion. also, for posters like me who do not generally look at the news forum, a repost in the football forum may make me aware of something that i had missed because i only read the BDC.

now, in the grand scheme of things.... its just not a big deal. its not like the football board is over run with people addressing things from the news forum.

my advice would be that considering how infrequently it happens, let the memebership be the judge. if someone finds something interesting from the news forum and wants to add it to the specific sports forum. fine. if no one else is interested in commenting further, then the thread will go away over a day or two and its really no harm or foul to anyone or anything.

if others want to comment for any number of reasons, then it helps the board.

closing a thread because its already in the news forum is just a bit much, imo. its not like its happening daily. it happens once or twice a month. maybe. i think we can survive this. especially when a relativly newer poster does it. if we want new people to engage and be participants, locking the threads they create because the article was already in the news forum is kinda stupid and shortsighted, imo.

its just not that big of a deal. so, suck it junta!!!! :thumbsup:!!!!!!

I wasn't sure what thread CU2x was talking about (I hadn't seen or noticed it), so I was talking more about his comment that there might be too many forums and he didn't have time to read them all.

As far as the thread itself goes, like I said I don't know the details, but I have no argument with what you said.

I don't see the problem at all. The point was to bring the article to people's attention. The mods stopped comment in the thread in the football forum, but left it there. That's how I found the newsroom thread, and I'm sure others, too. I think the system is working.

You don't even have to login to the forum. You can just double click the forum's icon (if there are new posts, it's a little dialog bubble filled in with gold and a black buffalo, if there are no new posts it is just grey) on the main forum page.
 
Fine. Next time I'll delete the thread and ban the user. And I'll also ban 4DB just for ****'s sake.
