Offensive line appreciation thread

The O-line played their best game on Saturday, and are playing better than many thought they would before the season began. ASU came in with a season total 18 sacks (5th in NCAA) and averaging 8.2 tackles for loss per game (18th in NCAA). The left with zero sacks and 5 TFL, and got manhandled all day by the O-line + McMillian. That last drive was beautiful; the O-line imposed absolutely imposed their will on ASU to clinch the game.

Helluva a game by our line.

We had 2 drives equaling 12:34 in the 4th quarter. That's how you put away a lead.

Even more impressive because this team is built for high tempo. MM has talked about being able to play fast but also slow down if the game calls for it and that proved this team is capable.

Yep. Our versatility on offense, including that ability to change tempo, has been refreshing.

Such a credit to the OL and Chev being able to run the ball at will when the other team knows that's what you're trying to do. Being able to do that is usually a mentality that you have to have ingrained in the OL and Offense well before the season and doesn't usually happen by simply flipping a switch. If the OL plays like that this weekend, we get the dub.

I will also add, that on the TV broadcast, I saw Coach Adams huddle up all of the offensive linemen near the beginning of the 4th qtr. His demeanor, and the way he was "talking" to them, you could see that he was challenging them to put this game away and control the clock/LOS.

Important - they responded. More important - they responded to him. The way this all played out is a BIG BIG deal, and reflective of where this OL is headed in my opinion.

Helluva of a year so far by them-we're recruiting better, and credit where credit is due.........Klayton Adams has done a hell of a job with that unit all year.

Is Sherman's play at left tackle the driver for the seeming jump in OLine play?

One important difference is that with Sherman's better athleticism, his quicker feet, they don't need to protect as often against the faster DE's or rush LBs. He allows them the play the blocking straight up instead of being predictable in their help schemes.

That same mobility also means he is able to do a better job on moving the pocket or protecting on the roll.
