Offensive woes

i don't want to overreact but I'm really frustrated with our offense and am kind of questioning Lindgren's creativity. Our offense has really struggled against strong defense's and face it, CSU does not have a strong defense and was able to shut us down.

I haven't watched the video and it's hard to assess watching it live, but we could not get the ball downfield, other than the touchdown that came off a scramble. Montez does not look comfortable in the pocket. We continued to throw to the flat and I kept thinking we were setting them up for a sort of pump and go where we get the guy in the flat, pump fake amthrow to get the defender to bite then go long. But I remember thinking we were setting that up game in and game out last year and we never did.

Friday's was the third straight game our offense didn't produce. Last year we struggled against strong D's but sort of masked things with periodic strong performances. I want to see a consistently strong and imaginative offense. There were too many more frustrating aspects of Friday's game to put in one post.

My feeling is that our halftime adjustment was to go conservative.

That is actually my frustration with the lame refereeing. People, including CU fans, have said that the score should have been 17-17, when in reality, if CSU gets within one score, maybe we stop playing like we don't want to make any mistakes and try to do more offensively.

My concern is the 3 to 4 straight drives that produce nothing. The offense has got to be hitting on all cylinders come p12 play while our defense gets more comfortable.

Play calling is one thing, but the mentality to want to bury teams and score every possession needs to be better.

The first game excuse doesn't wash, this is a veteran offense.

Hope the drop off from Irwin to Kaiser isn't typical. 5 Sacks from the "best o-line in recent memory". That does note bode well.

CU needs to decide if Montez is a pocket passer or if they need to do a rolling pocket since he seems to be better on the edges.
We won't know much about the offense till Pac 12 play.

Maybe my perception does not agree with fact, but it seems as though we were really successful in the 1st half running up their gut then went away from that in the second half and started going outside.

Montez needs to play with a little more urgency. He looked a little too relaxed at times during the game.
Bingo. It is one thing to br confident...but ya have to keep your edge....Montez at times looked like he was he was playing bridge with grandma. And i dont know if it was me but Montez seemed SLOW...

i will start by saying i was a bit overserved but with our wideout corps one would have thought we would have had some wideopen throws.....didnt happen and oline looked like crap.....play calling was "stone age stuff" as well......
on the bright side the "d" looked like it hasnt skipped a beat with pepsi man gone....i did miss his sideline gyrations though lol

We had 2 or 3 drives where CU drove the ball well, then either threw an interception, missed a FG, or took huge yardage loss that put them in a hole. That's 3 scores that worst case should have been FG's. Fixable things, so we shall see what happens. I think Montez watched Sefo too much. He freaks out a little while in the pocket, needs to do better at stepping up in the pocket.

He looked slow and indecisive at times. Was definitely weird. Just need him to get better every week.

Thought the same thing about everybody not named Lindsay on offense, in particular Bryce Bobo. As if they assumed they just needed to run plays at half speed to torch CSUs defense.

Getting better every week is something he'll have to do. Last year when he took snaps, he wasn't the guy yet and he knew it was Sefo's team. Now that he is, it's a bit different. Let's see if he is a leader. Talking about it is one thing, doing what he has to daily is quite different.

Our OL looks to be a bit overrated. Probably can be improved.

Hopefully Irwin coming back solves that issue.

I sensed the same thing. Hopefully it had to do with the first game pace being hard to emulate in practice.

I think that's at least part of it. The fact that it was a crazy atmosphere against a hyped up opponent couldn't have helped.

Beats coming in over-hyped and throwing three picks in the first quarter because you can't control your emotions, I guess.

This totally. Montez is still a punky kid learning how to lead. Don't know if he is on the slow boat or speedboat, but he'll get there.

I'm concerned but not ready to hit the panic button. I'm expecting them to be hitting on all cylinders come PAC12 play.

Upon further review (sober). Kaiser gets a mulligan because I have no idea when Irwin made his "mistake" and one person doesn't make a unit. How many practices did the Buffs have to create an offense built around Montez's skill set? He has the arm, doesn't have an accuracy problem throwing one side to the other and he's at least a step faster than Sefo or he'd been sacked 2-3 more times. A concern I have is why burn red shirts (Nixon & Shenault) when there's plenty of good back ups..ie Winfree & Huntley?. For CU to reach it's potential this season 8-9 wins the offense needs to play to it's strength which is the passing game. I can't remember ever seeing a college QB signalling his receives to go down field twice in a game, hitting one and over throwing another by 10 yards. I knew coming into this season that Montez was/is a different kind of QB than what I've watched for the last 4 yrs taking nothing away from Sefo. Turn Montez loose and this offense could be one of the best and most exciting to watch in the last 20 yrs.
