Tipoff scheduled for 11pm (MT) as part of the ESPN Tipoff Marathon, which begins at 5pm this evening and continues through 7:30pm tomorrow

They are asking anybody with tickets to the Auburn game that cannot attend to pass them on to students/fans that can go. They are looking for a raucous crowd as part of the ESPN event.

Also if you have a ticket you can use it to watch the ladies tipoff at 7pm in the 2nd round of the Preseason WNIT against Western Kentucky

The CUnit is doing their best to get students in the door.

1 a.m. (ESPN2) -- Auburn Tigers at Colorado Buffaloes (-10)

The Buffs should have been a preseason top-25 team with four returning starters. The second half of last season was rough, as Tad Boyle lost his best player and point guard Spencer Dinwiddie early in league play. However, they are used to playing without him now and are at home against a team that may be coached by Bruce Pearl, but doesn’t have nearly the talent.

There are quite a few things working against a short staffed Auburn club tonight but some environmental factors that should be interesting to watch:

1) Altitude.
2) 12am tipoff for the visitors.

Tad showed in the first game that we MIGHT have the ability to basically do hockey style line changes this year. That type of depth at this altitude could be lethal. It will be fun to see how the rotation develops this year.

C-Unit looks to be rowdy and well lubricated by 11pm tonight. SHOULD be quite an atmosphere tonight. They surprised me with their numbers for the opening game, I hope they don't let me down tonight
 
Curious to see what we go defensively tonight. Up front, they're going to start Bowers & Granger. Bowers is what we want Tory Miller to be. He's 6'7", 270 lbs of pure force down low while Granger is 6'8", 210 lbs. I'm wondering if we go with Wes on Bowers to save Josh. XJ on Harrell, XT on Mason and Ski on Shamsid-Deen. Going to need great defensive efforts from XT, XJ & Wes tonight. Keep those three controlled and we should roll.

I expect a big night for Jelly and I think Wes gets some buckets too. We have the size advantage.
 
I would expect that Josh will see double teams tonight. Auburn will need to pressure instead of playing it straight up. Buffs need to play smart on offense and own the glass in order to take care of business in this one.
 
Rumblin suggested on twitter that Auburn may go 4 guard to start tonight (take out Granger, put in Ross-Miller). If so, Wes & XJ are going to have their hands full with speedy guys.

Speed honestly helps us. That is the game tad wants to play. If Auburn wants to run then so be it.
 
Very excited for tonight.

Glad to see the students came out on Friday, I'm expecting it to be rowdy tonight. Only one issue, who told those girls in the front row Friday that it was ok to wear red. That pissed me off.

They were wearing those CU "Ugly Xmas Sweater" things. I get why CU is doing it, and I understand all of that, but don't ****ing make red ones. That's bad planning on our part.

Shamsid-Deen is doubtful to play. Mason is playing through an ankle injury

I knew about Mason, but didn't know about Shamsid-Deen. When did that happen? Was that in the UW-Milwaukee game?

Jordan Majewski is somebody (like NROPP) who knows a ton of stuff about CBB and is very active on twitter, I respect his opinion a lot - here is his brief writeup on the game tonight.


Drexel @ Colorado

Of course Drexel is already injured. Abif is out for the year, as is Canady, which means London and Wilson are running the point, and they have no interior depth. Touted freshman Dom Collier isn’t 100%, but I think Josh Scott and surprise FR standout (bold prediction here) Tory Miller eventually wear the Dragons down.
 
At risk of being jg smacked, Harrell originates from Bennett's system at UVA. He can play some D in addition to prolific scoring .

While we’re on the topic of rebounding, I think there’s a good chance that Auburn heads into the altitude tonight and throws up a dud. They just won their opener, while not easy, against Pearl’s former school. They’ll have limited prep and travel time, so getting ready for their best opponent on the road in the non-conference could be a bit much to overcome. They’re not all that deep, either, which should come into play. The really important thing here, is that Pearl is probably going to try and run - he’s not one to shy away from that - and Colorado will welcome it. I covered Colorado and their love with transition offense a year ago, and could spell this out a bit more if we didn’t have a marathon of basketball the next few days, but simply put, when they can control the glass, it feeds their offense so much more because they can get out in transition where they’re just extremely hard to stop with all their athleticism. And...they’re putting even more of an emphasis on transition offense this year with everything they’ve done in the offseason, which I noted on Friday. A few more things of importance that I should note as to why I think this could turn into a laugher. First, Auburn has zero size. Who matches up with Josh Scott in the halfcourt? I’m not sure. Second, Colorado couldn’t really run in the opener against Drexel as Drexel didn’t allow it too much. They still won comfortably, but the offense looked dull, and they should look better tonight given that they’ll play a game much more aligned and matched up with their style. And third, and probably most important, Boyle didn’t start Xavier Johnson or Wesley Gordon on Friday (disciplinary), and Booker didn’t start either due to illness. They would enter the game, and play about half the minutes, but assuming they’re in the lineup tonight, they should be ready to go from the start. At times, Colorado’s going to have lineups on the court that feature FOUR guys taller than anyone Auburn can find to put out there, which again leads to fourth - rebounding. And fifth - easy transition opportunities. Flood waters...meet...flood gates. I could be way off base here, but history has proven that if you can’t keep up with Colorado’s rebounding, they’re going to make you look silly, especially at home.

I agree with this. It would be insanity to try to go up-tempo at altitude against a team that goes 11 players deep (throwing Stalzer and King in as guys who could get minutes in a situation like this). Just plain stupid. Auburn would be dragging ass by the end of the first half.

King is redshirting, but your point stands.

Not only are the Buffs a lot bigger than Auburn, but our bigs can run. I hope Auburn tries to get up and down with us tonight. Hell, even Oregon couldn't do that with us at the Keg last year and they were deep, athletic and big.
