Ok Football inteligencia, where do we think we are?

It seems to me that we've got QB and WR well in hand. we're bringing in a ton of meat on the frontline to protect our passing game and open lanes for a strong RB that we got. TE went from an area of a lot of optimism to a need as far as I know.

We got players all over the place on D and I would assume most of them are an upgrade but not sure where we are other than it seems our pass rush just got a big step up and our CB's should be nasty.

BUt lots of people here understand this better than I. Where are we going into the push toward February?

Offense has enough pieces to be dangerous now with a good QB and an OL that will be serviceable to good. WR talent vastly upgraded. Would like to see a positive impact TE.

Defense? Harder to tell because no single position can dictate performance, but still missing anything resembling elite DL talent, so ceiling is much lower. LB will be better, but don't feel like we can expect better than P5 average so far. Safety still a work in progress. CB will be greatly upgraded. Hopefully not being hung out to dry by the O lets the D take big strides.

Feels very much like this team will compete for a bowl game despite the rougghhhh schedule.

So much will depend on who is actually coming back. For all the talk and speculation (and both local & national media criticism), we haven't seen much attrition from our 2022 roster outside of the QB room.

I do expect to hear some more names after guys have talked things over with their families over break and then some more once they see how things are gonna be + how they measure up for earning PT once winter conditioning starts. We'll be losing and adding guys all the way into the summer.

Just my thoughts broken into HS recruiting, transfers and what I would like to see.

High School recruiting
Offense

We signed five WRs which seems to be a decent amount compared to a lot of classes around the country. Also got Edwards coming in for RB and Staub at QB. The big question mark is will Sanders take a few more OL. Currently we have 2 Juco which is not a great thing. Championships are won on the trenches and to have success you need to be taking 4+ HS OL every year.

Defense:
The DL needs some help. Just like my comment with the OL, we need about 3-5 DL every class. We got two. Portal can help if we get freshman/SO jrs but you have to hope they pan out. LB we look solid and DB we still need 2-3 more to commit.

Transfers
Curious if Hunter will play both sides. But him and Sanders are the most flashy kids but Savion Washington will hopefully be one of our starters this upcoming year. Guy graded out better then any of our OTs. We got a few more transfers for OL (Brown coming from JSU and Bebee from Missouri st). Will be interesting to see how they can adapt to the D-1 level and make that jump. With Bentley (Clemson LB), Alston (WVU DE), and Kneeland (Western Michigan DE) will help with the pass rush.

Big Transfers
QB room is a major loss with McCown and Lewis leaving. A couple of OL leaving is also never a good thing but all of them are older which if we do have turnover is what you want.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
I honestly am hoping to have another QB sign as either a juco or transfer and get some more OL/DL kids. The lack of depth is something that i am concerned about and it takes time to develop those three positions. For a quick overall fix, I think we are looking pretty darn good. That being said

The new players will make a difference for sure, but the biggest changes that will impact our success next year are:

COACHING
ATTITUDE

These will be worth 2-3 additional wins alone.

Big boned.

I get the impression that the transfers really help put some legit D-1 players in most starting positions. Now it’s a matter of depth and time to work cohesively that will determine how well we do next year. I can see anywhere between 4-9 wins on the schedule depending on how those two issues work themselves out and how other teams we face have their own issues. That’s a big gap between best case and worst case.

Respectfully disagree. Vince Lombardi himself couldn’t coach the 2022 team to more than a couple wins. The talent on this team was dreadful. The entire roster needed to be turned over. And it basically has been.

I'll be curious how special teams end up.
Punting needs serious help. Who will be returners? Who are special teams dynamos that will excel a flipping the field?

Agree on the dismal talent, but this current staff could've squeezed out 2 more wins with that group even with the abysmal talent. Despite how the CU PR team and local media reported that Sanford was being accepted and was sooooooooo motivational, the true story is 90% of the team checked out on him too and wasn't even trying by the end of the year. Playing for someone you respect, trust and would run through a brick wall for makes a HUGE difference.
